Yes Announce Cruise to the Edge 2018

Yes has announced their annual Cruise to the Edge has been booked for 2018.

The cruise will be held over a five-night voyage from Tampa to multiple ports including, Belize City, Belize and Costa Mayo, Mexico. The ship sets sail on February 3rd. Ticket holders are invited to attend a complimentary party in Tampa the night before the ship leaves port.
Aside from Yes, the 2018 Cruise to the Edge lineup includes scheduled appearances from Prog bands; Marillion, Steve Hackett, Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy and Jethro Tull veteran Marin Barre, along with an array of performers that includes Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian, Saga, Gong, Glass Hammer, Adrian Belew Power Trio and more which can be seen below.

Cruisers will have opportunities to interact with the artists in Q&A sessions and “photo experiences”. There will also be Late Night Live programs, special theme nights, and much more.

Tickets are set to go on sale to the public May 3rd, with cabin prices starting at $1,249 per person in a double-occupancy cabin. The voyage will take place on Royal Caribbean’s Brilliance of the Seas, which “combines acres of glass enclosing a nine-story central atrium, elevators facing the sea, and floor-to-ceiling windows throughout” and offers multiple opportunities to exercise, relax, or seek out onboard pampering as well as “some of the best food and service afloat.”

Cops Deliver Pizza After Delivery Crash

In case you missed it, police in Germany understand the importance of a pizza. After responding to the site of a car crash involving a pizza delivery man on the job, they ended up getting the pie to its final destination.

The 46-year-old driver and the driver of the other car involved in the accident both needed to go to the hospital, so the cops brought the “shaken but still edible” to the hungry customers. No word on if they were given a tip.

Now You Can Wear Ikea’s Blue Bag As A Hat

If you live anywhere near an Ikea, you’ve seen their iconic blue bag. Now, a pair of companies have turned the reusable bag into a line of hats.

Each cap will run you $38, while the bag itself will only cost you 99-cents. The producers of the clothing item promise it will be available soon. This comes after luxury designer Balenciaga unveiled a $2,145 version of the bag. Which, again, costs less than a dollar per bag.

Public opinion of the hat is much more positive than Balenciaga’s bag. Instagram users are saying they “need” the hat and would definitely “rock” it.

Family Has To Leave Their House For Days After Bringing Home Deadly Bananas

Next time you buy bananas at the grocery store, look very, very closely at them. But be warned, if you’re as unlucky as Gemma Price, you’re going to have to evacuate your home for days.

The woman from Ireland had a close call with deadly Brazilian Wandering Spiders that had gotten into her house thanks to recently bought bananas. “As I peeled the banana a white egg sac, which I hadn’t noticed before, broke and hundreds of little spiders were crawling on my hands and arms and down my pajamas,” Price remembers. “I threw the banana down on the bed and they spread everywhere.”

She grabbed her seven-month-old son and booked it out of there. It took three days for a specialist to come in and kill all the deadly arachnids.

Woman blames her stepdaughter for drug paraphernalia and more:

Trudy Kay Richardson can’t take responsibility for her actions. Fortunately for her, she has a stepdaughter she can blame everything on. The 55-year-old’s stepdaughter was driving at the time they were pulled over and police spotted a marijuana pipe in Richardson’s lap. Naturally, even after the cops saw it, she ignored their warnings to hand it over and instead put it inside of herself. After people questioned by police, she not only said the pipe was her stepdaughter’s, but that it was the younger woman’s idea for her to stash it away in the first place. Richardson was the only one arrested though and now faces possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer without violence charges.

Groom may face charges for hiring wedding guests:

The shallowest groom in China, identified as Mr. Wang, was reportedly ashamed of his friends because they weren’t rich enough. So naturally, he hired 200 people at $12 a pop to pose as his pals. Probably not surprisingly, this man’s bride is pretty superficial too. After chatting with some of these so-called friends, she figured out his scheme and now both she and her family are unhappy her supposed true love isn’t as rich as he claimed to be. Now, local police are investigating whether the groom can be charged with a crime over the stunt.

ICYMI: Someone tried to use a hearse to smuggle marijuana:

In case you missed it, someone made a somber attempt at smuggling drugs. Border patrol in Arizona discovered 67-pounds of marijuana stashed inside a hearse. All in all, the drugs were worth $33-thousand. No word on how pricey the casket was.

Quilting Group Donates 44 Works of Art to Mahaska Health Partnership Patients

The Helping Hands Quilt Group gets together once a month and donates their finished quilts to various non-profit organizations. Each quilt is truly a work of art.

The group recently donated 44 beautiful quilts to Mahaska Health Partnership to be distributed to patients in the Cancer Care and Infusion Center (CCIC), the Emergency Department, the Birthing Center and Surgical Services. The quilts are made of all sizes and tailored to patients; including longer ones to fully cover the legs of patients receiving treatment in CCIC.

“We have donated quilts to many nonprofits and like to keep our donations local,” said Linda Binns of Oskaloosa. “We meet once a month and sew all day. Four of us have long arm quilting machines so all quilts are machine quilted, machine pieced and bound. We wash them before delivery too and use Color Catchers.”

The group has nine members, as well as unofficial members who are older and with them in spirit. They meet at a house owned by Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. Binns explained that it is a group project, with some members sewing, some cutting and some getting the quilt tops together with batting and backings.

“We take them home to quilt, bring them back and another gal does most of our binding,” Binns explained. “We love getting together and it brings us great joy to know that our work is appreciated and, in a small way, we are able to touch so many lives. “

Helping Hands also regularly donates to the MHP Hospice Serenity House by making quilts that go on patient beds. The quilts are laundered a lot and when they get worn-out, are taken to the animal shelter. “We always donate a good supply of quilts to the Hospice Serenity House as one of our set donations,” Binns explained.

“We also regularly donate to Crisis Intervention Services. We recently made a large donation to the Ottumwa Homeless Shelter and have donated to the VA in Knoxville.”

With these ladies, it’s all about their passion for quilting and giving to those who could really benefit by a unique gift from the heart that is made with love.

Brown Ends Season with POW Award

Oskaloosa–Emily Brown (Jr., Waverly, Iowa, Biology) saved her best ball for the final week of the campaign as she was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week Monday.

Brown collected her first weekly nod after putting up gaudy numbers for William Penn (24-29, 12-22 Heart) against Culver-Stockton and Graceland.

The junior hit .692 (8-for-13), including three doubles and three home runs with 12 RBIs and eight runs. She also drew three walks. Her week was highlighted by going 3-for-3 against Graceland on Wednesday, crushing two homers with six RBIs and three runs scored in the opener. Brown was also impressive in the nightcap with four hits, four RBIs, and three runs.

For the year, Brown owned a .350 batting average (55-for-157) with 11 doubles, five home runs, 33 RBIs, and 24 runs scored.

The honor is the first for William Penn this season.

Half Dozen for Seddon

Oskaloosa–Derek Seddon (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) capped the weekly honors schedule with one more accolade as he was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week Monday.

Seddon got into double figures for his career (now with 10, six this season) as he won two crowns at the Simpson Kip Janvrin Open.

The senior improved his shot put distance to an automatic-qualifying standard of 52-10.25, giving him three events in which he is at the ‘A’ mark (also discus and hammer).

Seddon won the shot put competition with that throw and also topped all discus throwers at 173-4. He took 12th in the hammer as well at 162-4.

Seddon currently ranks first nationally in the discus, 11th in the shot put, and 15th in the hammer. Incredibly, he leads the Heart in all three events entering this week’s league championship meet.

The weekly accolade is the ninth for William Penn this season.

Foreigner Release “I Don’t Want To Live Without You” With Kelly Hansen on Vocals

Kelly Hansen has been the lead vocalists for Foreigner since 2005, but he is officially putting his studio stamp on the band’s old material. The band has released a new version of “I Don’t Want To Live Without You” with Hansen doing the vocals. The original version was released in 1987 on Inside Information, with Lou Gramm on vocals.

This version of the song will be released on the upcoming greatest hits album, 40, due out on May 19th. The album features 40 tracks taken from the band’s 40-year career.

When asked about remaking the song, guitarist Mick Jones, said “‘This is a song I have always loved. It has a special meaning for me as it was inspired by my mother. We decided to record it this time around with a modern sound and a greater guitar presence, as the original version was more of a keyboard song. It really worked nicely, and I’m very happy with it.”

The “Napercise” Workout Involves Going to a Gym . . . and Exercising By Taking a Nap

There’s a gym in England that just created a new workout called “Napercise.” You go to the gym, head into one of the class studios . . . and then everyone takes a 45-minute nap. You also do some stretches before or after, but I bet those are optional.

The gym says the class, quote, “reinvigorates the mind, improves moods, and even burns the odd calorie.”

Obese Monkey Is Heading To Fat Camp

Visitors to Bangkok, Thailand will likely come in to contact with monkeys around the city. Once such monkey loves to interact with tourists, mostly because they feed him. That’s how the primate ballooned to 33-pounds, more than 10 pounds heavier than the average long-tailed macaque.

The monkey, dubbed Uncle Fatty, has dined on everything from melons to milkshakes and now he’s being sent to fat camp. Primate conservation group Monkey Lovers is going to help Uncle slim down.

“He’s not sick, he just needs helps,” the conservation explains. “He likes eating and there are lots of visitors and tourists who give him food all day. We want the monkeys to stay roaming free outside where they are happy.”

Flower shop owner charged with stealing flowers from graveyards:

Lynda Wingate has an usually, and slightly creepy, hobby: stealing flowers and other items from graveyards. A security camera was put up in the First Reformed Church Cemetery in Pequannock Township, New Jersey after two flower arrangements, and then their replacements, were stolen. It turns out 59-year-old Wingate was the woman behind the robberies. The woman, who owns a flower shop, told police she was simply cleaning up old flowers from graves of people she knew. The cops aren’t buying it. Wingate is now facing theft charges. It’s unclear if she reused the plants in her store or was benefiting from the flowers “disappearing” in some other way.

Someone is going around shaving cats:

Waynesboro, Virginia is a small town with at least one weirdo living in it. Authorities are on the hunt for the person who is going around taking cats and precisely shaving their underbellies or legs. That’s right, shaving cats. The animals have all been returned unharmed. So far, seven felines have fallen victim to this strange and unwanted groomer. Police say they aren’t even sure what crime is being committed by this man, but owners would like it to stop. Understandable.

Woman arrested for xylophone attack:

Florida woman April Encarnacion does not appreciate the sound of a xylophone. Police were called after the 43-year-old dumped a pot of cold cooking grease on her male victim all because he wouldn’t stop playing the instrument. For what it’s worse, she claims she asked him to stop before getting grease involved. Encarnacion is facing a misdemeanor battery charge. What’s more, she’s already on probation in connection with a charge of battery on a police officer.

Shawn’s Hay Grinding Adds $1000 Towards Wednesday Night’s Race Purse

This Wednesday night Shawn’s Hay Grinding is adding $1000 towards the purse. $800 to win IMCA Modifieds, $450 IMCA Stock Cars, $450 IMCA Sport Mods, $350 IMCA Hobby Stocks, and $250 Sport Compacts.

The Southern Iowa Speedway will add $200 extra to any class with 20 plus cars. So that will make it $1000, $650, $650, $500, and $450 to win per class. Sport Compacts were close to 20 last week. Shawn Ritter wants this Wednesday night to be big since there was no racing in our area all weekend. Kids rides will be held at 7:15immmediately following hot laps.

Without great sponsors like Shawn we wouldn’t be racing weekly. Any class with over 16 cars will have laps added to their feature to go for the extra money.

Market St. Bridge Work Continues

April 28, 2017 – Ottumwa, Iowa – Traffic will be reduced to two lanes, one lane of travel in each direction, beginning May 1, 2017, weather permitting. The bridge contractor will begin work to paint the steel structure. Work is expected to take several weeks to complete. Drivers should reduce speed and be aware of workers and equipment in the area. Seek other routes to avoid any delays. Residents with questions about this project can call the Ottumwa Engineering Department at 641-683-0680.
