On this day in 1964, The Beatles recorded the TV special Around The Beatles at Wembley studios England. The special was shown internationally on May 6th of the same year, and in the US on November 15th.

The show opened with a rendition of “play within a play” from “A Midsummer Nights Dream”. Paul McCartney played Pyramus, John Lennon as his lover Thisbe, George Harrison as Moonshine, and Ringo Starr as Lion.

The Beatles would also perform multiple songs including “Twist and Shout”, “Roll Over Beethoven”, and a medley of “Love Me Do/Please Please Me/From Me to You/She Loves You/I Want to Hold Your Hand”.

Cheap Trick is back, and have released a new single. The band released “Long Time Coming” while announcing their new album We’re All Alright!.

The album is a surprise treat for fans, coming out a year after the band’s last album Bang, Zoom, Crazy… Hello, which came out seven years after The Latest. The album comes out June 16th and marks the shortest break between albums for Cheap Trick in 30 years.
You can listen to the album’s first single, “Long Time Coming,” which Billboard premiered, below.

“We always write, but it’s more fun to write for a project and write for a reason,” guitarist Rick Nielsen told Billboard. “We have a company that believes in us, and they like the work and they’re letting us make more records, which is cool. Making records is one of the ambitions we’ve always had. I don’t think the desire has ever gone away.”

Next time you have to pee in New York City, you might want to make a trip up to the New York Public Library. A nearby public bathroom has opened after two months of renovations costing a whopping $300-thousand.

The john features delivered flowers, imported titles, classical music and artwork and is open to any and everyone.

Firefighters Have To Deal With A Pet Alligator And A Massive Fire

Only in Australia! As if being a firefighter is dangerous enough, those responding to a call in Darwin had to deal with the blaze all while under the watchful eye of a pet alligator.

Fortunately for the firefighters, Albert, the 13-foot-long croc, was kept in a backyard enclosure and wasn’t injured by the two story fire. “Thankfully the crocodile didn’t affect our operations at all,” firefighter Bill Gleeson says. “It’s well contained and clearly unaffected by fire. He seemed quite happy to look at me as I was protecting the premises.”

Homeowner Helen Haritos explains she inherited Albert from her crocodile hunter father back in 1992. It’s unclear whether Albert will be removed from the home or not.

Man Catches Rat In His House, Puts It In Shackles

Most people understand the frustration, and gross out factor, of having a rat or mouse in your house. For one man in Taiwan, he decided to publicly shame the animal.

Lee Wei-chin was finally able to catch the pesky intruder inside his Taichung City home. He then shackled the animal and put its arms inside inside mini stocks, the Medieval-era punishment device.

Wei-chin posted photos of the captured animal on social media and they went viral. The reaction has been mixed. While some think the stunt is funny, others are calling for Wei-chin to either kill the rat or let it go.

Police in Oregon Get a Call About a Cat With an Assault Rifle in a Tree

The cops in Newport, Oregon got a call earlier this week from someone who was worried because they saw a CAT in a tree . . . holding an assault rifle.

When the cops got there, they took a photo . . . and it really DID look like the cat was holding a little miniature gun.

Fortunately, it turns out the gun was actually just a branch, so the cops determined the cat wasn’t a threat and they left.

A Couple on a First Date Get Into a Brawl Over Splitting the Bill

One of the results of all the progress toward gender equality is more women are offering to pay . . . or at least split the bill . . . on first dates. Here’s a RIDICULOUS case of that going horribly wrong.

A 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman in Hong Kong went on a first date to a Japanese barbecue restaurant on Sunday night. And clearly, the date went pretty well, since they stayed for three hours and drank three bottles of sake together.

Then the bill came, and it was high: $274, about $150 of which was the alcohol.

The guy still insisted on paying, but the woman REALLY wanted to throw in because it was so expensive, so she gave him about $65 in cash.

But he TORE up the cash she gave him. The argument escalated, it wound up getting PHYSICAL . . . and the two of them started brawling in the restaurant.

They both ended up in the hospital. The guy DID wind up paying the full bill, by the way. And the cops are still investigating so criminal charges could be coming.

A Guy Crashes Into an Auto Parts Store . . . Where He Was Going to Get Brake Parts

A guy named Leonard Owens was driving to an Advanced Auto Parts store in Dry Ridge, Kentucky on Tuesday morning because he needed to fix his brake lines.

And apparently he REALLY needed those parts, because as he was pulling into a parking space, his brakes failed . . . and he SMASHED right through the front of the store.

Fortunately, no one was hurt. The police haven’t said whether he’ll be cited.

Man asks police to bring a drug dog to his house…because someone stole his heroin:

This happened in January but the report was just released. A 20-year-old guy named Joseph Murphy from Bath Township, Ohio called 911 and told them he needed a drug-sniffing police dog.

Why? He said a woman had stolen his HEROIN, and he wanted the dog to help him find it.

The cops came and Joseph repeated all of that to them. And then, I guess, he realized the woman HADN’T stolen his heroin . . . because he pulled it out of his pants.

Another Baby Turned Over Under Iowa Safe Haven Law

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say another newborn has been turned over to state custody under Iowa’s safe haven law.

The Iowa Human Services Department said in a news release Friday the infant was born April 10 and released to state custody the next day. The department didn’t say where the birth took place.

It’s the 27th time the law has been used to protect the welfare of an infant since the law was approved following a 2001 case, in which a teenage mother in eastern Iowa killed her home-delivered newborn.

The law lets parents hand over custody of babies up to 14 days old without fear of prosecution.

On this day in 1981, Ringo Starr married actress and one time ‘Bond girl’ Barbara Bach. The pair met while filming the movie, Caveman, with Dennis Quaid and Shelley Long. Fellow Beatles, George Harrison and Paul McCartney, were in attendance.

The couple are celebrating their 36th Anniversary.

KISS Launch Online Auction To Aid Teenage Cancer Trust

KISS has teamed up with The Teenage Cancer Trust and Charitystars.com for an online auction to help their amazing cause.

The winner of the auction, along with a guest, will win a meet and greet with the band before their May 31st show at the O2 Arena, along with an exclusive 30-minute acoustic set.

The highest bidder will also get a photograph with the group, a private tour of the venue, and will receive a Paul Stanley Custom Ibanez guitar signed by the group to take home.

All proceeds from the online auction will go to The Teenage Cancer Trust which provides vital cancer services for young people across the UK.

KISS previously auctioned signed guitars and VIP tickets to their Download show in 2015, supporting the charity.

Florida Offering T-Shirts To People Who Catch Pythons

The Florida Wildlife Commission is very determined to get rid of pythons. After asking professionals, they’re going straight to the average Joe for help catching the potentially deadly creatures.

The FWC has launched the “Python Pickup Program” which offers incentives to people who catch one of the serpents in the wild. Aside from a free t-shirt, amateur snake wranglers will be entered to win a variety of prizes…including a $100 gas gift card.

This isn’t the first time the FWC has tried a program like this. The main difference between “Python Challenge” roundups held in 2013 and 2016? This time you’re not required to get any training before attempting to grab a snake.

Man Slugs Hospital Worker Over Dead Rabbit

Adam Louis does not know how to handle either loss or his own anger. The 45-year-old was at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City when he was told his pet rabbit had died. Naturally he then socked a female hospital employee, rendering her unconscious.

It’s unclear if he was a patient or visiting the hospital. It’s also unclear how his beloved rabbit died. What is clear? Louis has got some legal woes ahead.

For now, Louis is facing a felony assault charge.

Couple Becomes First To Get Married At The Spam Museum

Mark Benson really, really loves Spam. So much in fact, the English man legally changed his middle name to “I Love Spam.” With that in mind, Mark’s now wife Anne Mousley surprised her boo with the wedding venue of a lifetime: Minnesota’s Spam Museum.

Hormel, the company that owns Spam, heard Mark and Anne’s story and foot the bill for the entire event. There was the traditional cake, but also “spamitizers,” which included doughnuts, cheesy pastry bites and sushi, all of which contained the canned meat.

That’s not the end of their Spam story, either. Hormel is also sending Mark and Anne to Waikiki, Hawaii for the 15th annual Spam Jam food festival for their honeymoon. There will be live music, Spam merchandise and food stalls cooking up innovative recipes. The best part? The ‘I Love Spam’ Bensons will be presented as Spam Jam’s guests of honor.

Man grows pot because he thought it would be legal soon:

Michael Marshall is someone who likes to plan ahead. The St. Albans, Vermont man was caught with 13 full-grown marijuana plants and 27 smaller plants after police tried to confront him about a hunting violation. Marshall’s excuse? He thought pot would be legal soon and he wanted to get a head start on future sales. Marshall will have to go to court next month.

Two men tried to smuggle $380K worth of cocaine in their pants:

A pair of men decided on unusual, and criminal, outfit choices for their flight from Domincan Republic to New York City. When they arrived at JFK airport, each man was searched and between the two, they had 13 pounds of cocaine taped to their legs. That’s a combined street value total of $380-thousand, all stuffed in their pants. Now Ariel Garcia and Elvin Montilla-Sosa are facing federal drug smuggling charges.

Man robs the same store twice:

Robbers should never return to the scene of the crime, especially when it’s to rob the place again. Ryan Mulligan held Champlain Farms employees at knifepoint and fled with cash. When St. Johnsbury, Vermont police caught up with the 25-year-old, he admitted to robbing the store. He also admitted to robbing the same store a week earlier. No word of the amount of therapy the farm employees need now.

Drum Corps Mid-America Competition Marching into Lacey Recreation Complex

(OSKALOOSA, Iowa) – It’s time to mark your calendars! William Penn University’s Athletic Bands program has announced that a competitive marching and music event will return to Oskaloosa at a much higher level than ever before.

“Drum Corps Mid-America” is a competition between some of the best Open Class Drum & Bugle Corps from across the U.S. This unique experience will be held in the stadium at the Lacey Recreation Complex in Oskaloosa on Saturday, July 29. There are over 135 DCI events each year in cities and towns across the country, touching more than 40 states. Over 400,000 fans are reported to attend these competitions each summer.

The competition will start at 7:00 p.m. at the Lacey Complex. Tickets to the Drum Corps Mid-America competition will be $12 in advance or $15 at the gate on July 29. Tickets for children 10 and under are $10 each and premium row seating tickets are $25 each. This event is geared towards an audience of all ages. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, May 10 and will be available for purchase at Oskaloosa Hy-Vee, Mahaska Drug and the William Penn University Bookstore. Tickets will also be able to be purchased online at www.wmpenn.edu

These Drum & Bugle Corps are similar to high school marching band programs in respect that they play and march, consist of a horn line (all brass), color guard, drum line and front line pit, but they also reach a much higher level of precision and performance. These top-notch performances serve as an inspiration to many high school programs across the nation. Confirmed performing corps include: Blue Devils B of Concord, CA; Colt Cadets of Dubuque, IA; Gold of San Diego, CA; Guardians of Houston, TX; Les Stentors of Sherbrooke, QC; Southwind of Mobile, AL; and Vanguard Cadets of Santa Clara, CA.

Drum Corps are non-profit organizations, considered the “Major League of Marching and Music”, and involve young people, ages 13–22 competing at over 100 events each summer throughout North America. Each year, more than 8,000 students audition for the fewer than 3,500 positions available in the top-tier Drum Corps International member corps.

Each full-size drum corps consists of 150 members and 50–60 staff and crew whom essentially live on the road during the months of June, July and August as they move toward the World Championships in Indiana.

Five years ago, the Oskaloosa High School Band Boosters co-hosted with the Dubuque Colts Drum Corps a similar event prior to the completion of the new stadium. Last year, William Penn University Athletic Bands held the event at the Lacey Stadium for the first time as the Vanguard Cadets claimed a first-place victory.

WPU has been bringing various drum corps to Oskaloosa during the last seven years for mid-season rehearsal camps, and each year they have performed an exhibition for the Oskaloosa community. For more information, contact the Office of Advancement at 641-673-1044.

On this day in 1988, Mick Jagger appeared in White Plains, New York, Federal Court in the copyright infringement case brought by reggae singer Patrick Alley, who claimed the Mick Jagger solo track “Just Another Night” was a plagiarism of his own song of the same name. Alley was claiming $7m in profits from the track. During the

2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony Date and Location Revealed

The 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was a huge success, and the Hall has already begun their planning for 2018.

The Rock Hall has announced plans to return to Cleveland at the Public Hall on April 14th, 2018. This will continue the pattern of returning to Cleveland every three years; it was most recently held there in 2015, and previously in 2012 and 2009.

A press release also announced “a series of events” that will surround the induction. Attendees of the induction will experience a community celebration including free admission to the Rock Hall and 2018 inductee exhibit.
This will be the 33rd annual induction.
