Marshalltown Man Charged With Stabbing Death

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a Marshalltown man has been stabbed to death.

Police say in a news release that officers and medics called to a Marshalltown residence found the wounded man around 12:55 a.m. Wednesday. He was taken to Central Iowa Healthcare, where he died.

Police identified him as 21-year-old Isaiah Parker. A man found at the residence, 22-year-old Jordan Parker, was arrested after questioning and charged with second-degree murder. It’s unclear whether the men are related. A police spokesman didn’t immediately return a call from The Associated Press.

It’s unclear whether Jordan Parker has an attorney who could comment for him. Online court records don’t yet list the case.

Rhino Joins Tinder

Sudan needs a lady in life, so he’s doing what plenty of people do: joining Tinder. The main difference of course is Sudan is the last male northern white rhino.

“I don’t mean to be too forward, but the fate of the species literally depends on me,” the rhino’s dating profile says. “I perform well under pressure.”

The stunt is aimed at raising the funds needed to save the species. Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Sudan’s Kenyan home, wants $9-million for research into breeding methods, including in-vitro fertilization, in an effort to save the species from extinction.

The “Most Eligible Bachelor in the World” campaign looks like it’s working. After news of lovelorn Sudan starting surfacing, Ol Pejeta’s website crashed.

Fruit Juice Floods Russian Town

Residents living near the PepsiCo factory in Lebedyansky, Russia were in for quite for a surprise when they had to deal with a flash flood…of fruit juice.

The roof of the factory collapsed, sending two tons of juice into the streets and the nearby River Don. According to a company spokesperson, two workers were stranded after the collapse, but no one was injured. Now, the company is figuring out how to clean their sticky mess up.

We Have Another Human Barbie

Believe it or not, there’s another woman in the world who wants to look like Barbie and is willing to drop serious cash in order to do it. At just 30, Ophelia Vanity has already spent $35-thousand on medical treatments that help her look more like a doll, and that’s not even including an plastic surgeries.

Vanity says she wants to get breast and butt implants and between four and six ribs removed in order to make her body look like Barbie’s.

Until then, Vanity spends three-hours doing her makeup each day, gets Botox and fillers to reshape her face, and wears contacts to make her eyes look bigger. Of course she also bleaches her naturally dark hair every two months.

As for her haters, Vanity says she pays no mind, adding “I know they just want a rise. If they really hated me, they’d look away.”

Woman is fighting for her job after she livestreamed herself naked on her town’s Instagram:

It’s hard to keep up with changing technology, but for Lynn Dorsey, Instagram’s new live feature cost her her job. The 61-year-old tourism director in Webster Parish, Louisiana thought she was sending a striptease video to her husband. Instead, the entire town could see the 30-minute clip. Dorsey, who was using her work phone, was fired and now she’s going to court. She wants her job back and is seeking money for damages, civil penalties, and attorney’s fees.

Trio attempt to fly massive amount of drugs from California to Kentucky:

Isaac Basilio Rosas, Cedric Allen Oronce Fajardo and Robert Walter Carlson must believe in the idea of “go big or go home.” The trio attempted to fly 80-pounds of cocaine and 40-pounds of meth from California to Lexington, Kentucky via private jet. Police were given a tip about the narcotics filled plane and ended up finding a suitcase containing meth in a BMW that ran a red light. The remaining drugs were found in pieces of luggage still on board the plane.

ICYMI: Man faked a terror plot to get out of going on vacation with his girlfriend:

Motaparthi Vamshi Krishna was having an affair. He promised his mistress he’d take her on vacation. Well, the 32-year-old man didn’t want to go and instead of explaining that, he created a new email address and sent a note to airport authorities claiming he had heard men discussing a hijacking plot. After investigating, officials were able to trace the email back to Krishna’s computer and he was arrested for giving false information to a public servant with the intent to cause them to use their lawful power to the injury of another person.

Statesmen Snag Necessary Heart Sweep

Oskaloosa–The Statesmen softball team recorded some timely hits and Katie Springer (So., Riverside, Iowa, Undecided) came up big twice out of the bullpen as William Penn swept Culver-Stockton in a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader Tuesday.

William Penn (22-29, 10-22 Heart) won by scores of 7-5 and 9-7. The wins, coupled with a 1-1 day for Graceland, sets up a huge league twinbill Thursday against the Yellowjackets in Lamoni (4 p.m. start). The Statesmen trail GU by one game for the North Division’s final berth in the Heart Tournament.

The Wildcats (22-24, 15-20 Heart) claimed the early lead with one run in the top of the first, but the hosts tied it up in the bottom of the second on a single by Brooklyn Bantz (Jr., Smithville, Mo., Psychology and Human Services) that brought in Michelle Castro (Fr., Acampo, Calif., Business Management).

C-SC went back ahead with three third-inning runs. WPU then narrowed the deficit to two in the bottom of the third when Castro’s double scored Chyanne Koko (Jr., Waianae, Hawaii, Physical Education).

Down 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Dalaney Bice (Fr., Woodward, Iowa, Human Services and Psychology) produced the biggest pop of the night as she pounded a three-run home run over the center field fence. Castro and Emily Brown (Jr., Waverly, Iowa, Biology) also touched home on the roundtripper–Bice’s first of the year.

The navy and gold then took the advantage for the first time, and for good, in the bottom of the sixth. Brown’s single plated Kacey Lutz (Jr., Lodi, Calif., Business Management), while Bice also doubled in Castro.

Katie Springer (So., Riverside, Iowa, Undecided), who entered in the top of the fifth, retired the Wildcats in order in the seventh with three straight groundouts to earn the victory. The sophomore permitted just one hit in 2 2/3 scoreless innings; she also struck out two batters.

WPU owned a 12-9 edge in hits as Bice was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Castro was also 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Lutz notched two base knocks as well.

William Penn took advantage of two first-inning C-SC errors as it blew out to a 6-0 advantage in the second game. Jenny Navarro (Jr., Bellflower, Calif.), with a single to score Castro, and Brown, with a double to bring in Bice, had run-scoring hits before Bantz provided a double that plated both Navarro and Brown.

Unfortunately, things unraveled quickly as the visitors scored once in the second and five more times in the third to knot the nightcap at 6-6.

Castro gave WPU the edge back in the fourth as she hit her third homer of the season, also tallying Lutz. Both squads each added one more run in the sixth as Castro knocked in Lutz on a two-bagger.

The Statesmen overcame being outhit 14-9. Brown, Castro, and Kodee Johnson (Sr., Stockton, Calif., General Mathematics) all finished with two hits. Castro produced three RBIs and two runs, while Lutz came around on three occasions. Bantz also had two RBIs.

Springer once again stepped up in a relief performance, permitting just one run on five hits in 4 1/3 frames. She managed three strikeouts.

On this day in 1970, The Jackson 5 started a two week run at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with “ABC”. “ABC” knocked The Beatles‘ “Let It Be” off the top of the Hot 100 chart, and took over the soul singles chart for four weeks.

It was the group’s second US No. 1, a No.8 hit in the UK.

Paul McCartney Heading to Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa – Legendary musician Paul McCartney is heading to Des Moines to perform!

For the first time, since 2005, McCartney will be playing Wells Fargo Arena on Friday, July 21st.

The Iowa Events Center made the announcement Tuesday morning at Cowles Commons after using social media teases to clue fans in about McCartney’s return.

Tickets will go on sale May 1st at 10:00 a.m.

The former Beatle also announced a series of tour dates that’s taking him from Japan to the U.S.

Man Convicted Of Manslaughter Over Wasp Sting

If you’re ever in Switzerland, don’t try to remove a wasps’ nest by yourself. Seriously. As it turns out, a man who was trying to help a friend out by removing a nest has now been convicted of manslaughter!

The unnamed man was in the process of getting rid of the nest when he agitated the wasps. The insects then stung a neighboring couple. The woman suffered stings on her head and arm and recovered, but her husband had an allergic reaction and eventually died from his injuries.

The court claims the helpful friend should have taken precautions considering it’s widely known how dangerous a wasp’s sting could be. The defendant argued he didn’t expect anyone to be outside because it was cold out at the time plus there were no legal requirements to be fulfilled before the removal of a wasps’ nest. Ultimately, the court ruled the man was actin recklessly and the death could have been prevented.

Ready for the REALLY weird part? Sure, a conviction for manslaughter sounds bad – and it is – but our convict was sentenced to just 90-days behind bars…and can pay his way out of the jail time if he coughs up $9-thousand.

White-Collar Boxing Clubs Are Now A Thing

Fight clubs are going white-collar. Boxing groups geared toward office workers are springing up on both sides of the Atlantic and offer to give business professionals a chance and giving, and taking, a punch.

The idea is to train men and women with office jobs in the ways of professional boxing. After a certain amount of training, new boxers will head to the ring to fight someone in the same program. No previous experience is necessary.

According to Brit Ben Bloom who went through the training, getting in the ring, and winning, was incredible. As he puts it, “the pathetic pencil-case watchman had become a boxing champion – and it felt incredible.”

Police Stop Tween Driver During A Cross Country Trip

Police in Broken Hill, Australia pulled over a car because it’s bumper was dragging on the road what they found was a gutsy tween with a love of driving.

The man, or boy, behind the wheel was just 12 and he had already made it 800-miles from his home. The unnamed minor was planning on driving cross country to Perth, which is more that 25-hundred miles from his hometown of Kendall.

While cops haven’t announced why the ambitious kid decided to go all the way to Perth, they will say of how he managed to stay on the road without rousing suspicious. At just 12, he’s already six-feet-tall. It’s unclear if he’ll face any charges.

Maple syrup burglar gets prison time:

Avik Caron’s sticky situation has landed him five years behind bars. The Canadian man organized a maple syrup theft ring back in 2011 that lasted a year and resulted in the illegal sale of over six-million pounds of syrup. That’s right, six-million. All in all, Caron and his band of thieves made more than $13-million. Now, a judge has sentenced him to a five-year prison sentence along with a $740-thousand fine for the syrup heist and an additional year in prison and a $493,000 fine for an unrelated fraud against an insurance company.

Man arrested for trying to “save” his beer from a fire:

Michael Casteel really loves his beer. The 56-year-old was arrested outside of his Sioux Falls, South Dakota apartment building because he tried to reenter to save his suds….while the building was on fire. Casteel was able to get back inside and grab two beers. When he somehow made it out safely, he was arrested and charged with obstructing a firefighter. As a police spokesperson put it, Casteel showed “poor judgment.”

Drunk woman tries to smooch the officer who pulled her over:

Saryna Parker is the type of woman who goes for what she wants. Unfortunately, what the Miami, Florida woman wants is to drive drunk then try and make out with the cop who pulled her over. Oh, and she was a teacher who had her 10-year-old son in the car when she told the officer “If you don’t stop looking at me like that, I’m going to kiss you.” Not surprisingly, the cop didn’t take her up on her offer. Instead, Parker is now facing DUI charges along with battery on a police officer.

Authorities ID Man Whose Body Was Found in Des Moines River

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Des Moines authorities have released the name of a man whose body was recovered from the Des Moines River.

Police identified him as 52-year-old Robert Webb, who lived in Des Moines. His body was spotted around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police say an autopsy revealed no evidence that a crime was involved in Webb’s death.

Elton John Hospitalized Due To Harmful Infection

After spending two nights in intensive care, Elton John is recovering at home.

John spent those days in the London hospital after contracting a “harmful and unusual bacterial infection” during a recent tour of South America.

As reported by Uproxx, John’s team released an official statement explaining the situation. “During his return flight home from Santiago, Chile, [John] became violently ill. Upon returning to the U.K., Elton’s doctors admitted him to hospital, where he underwent immediate treatment to remove the infection. After spending two nights in intensive care followed by an extended stay in hospital, Elton was released from hospital on Saturday, April 22, and is now comfortably resting at home per doctor’s advice.”

Due to the illness, John has canceled all of his scheduled shows for April and May, which consisted of his new Las Vegas residency. The singer is expected to be recovered in time for his tour.

“I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologize for disappointing them,” John said in a statement. “I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well.”

On this day in 1979, Ray Charles‘ rendition of “Georgia On My Mind” was proclaimed the state song of Georgia.

The music to the song was written in 1930 by Hoagy Carmichael who also recorded a version of the song in New York in the same year. Ray Charles, a native of Georgia, recorded it in 1960 on the album The Genius Hits the Road.

The song reached g the number one spot for one week on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Lynyrd Skynyrd Biopic Begins Filming

Lynyrd Skynyrd is getting the biopic treatment.

Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash begins filming today and will tell the story of the band’s early years and rise to fame.

Lynyrd Skynyrd will be brought to the big screen by, Taylor Clift as Ronnie Van Zant, Samuel Kay Forrest as Steve Gaines and Rich Dally III as Allen Collins, and Ian Shultis is playing Artimus Pyle. Pyle wrote the story that the script is based on.
Variety reports that actors Neill Byrnes and Anthony Rocco Bovo have been hired to play Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry.

If the title doesn’t give it away, a big part of the plot will reflect on the 1977 plane crash that killed three band members, one of the group’s road managers, and both pilots.

For Pyle, who shared his version of the Skynyrd saga with the director and co-writer Jared Cohn, the accident still represents a heartbreaking loss of potential.
“We could play with any band — any band, whether it was the Rolling Stones, anyone, and we would hold our own or better. I think of that accident every day and what we might have accomplished if we’d have 10 more years,” said Pyle. “I want the movie to portray my band members the way they were: real, funny people who loved the music, loved the success that allowed us to be able to travel the world and play for kings and queens all over this planet.”
