After spending two nights in intensive care, Elton John is recovering at home.

John spent those days in the London hospital after contracting a “harmful and unusual bacterial infection” during a recent tour of South America.

As reported by Uproxx, John’s team released an official statement explaining the situation. “During his return flight home from Santiago, Chile, [John] became violently ill. Upon returning to the U.K., Elton’s doctors admitted him to hospital, where he underwent immediate treatment to remove the infection. After spending two nights in intensive care followed by an extended stay in hospital, Elton was released from hospital on Saturday, April 22, and is now comfortably resting at home per doctor’s advice.”

Due to the illness, John has canceled all of his scheduled shows for April and May, which consisted of his new Las Vegas residency. The singer is expected to be recovered in time for his tour.

“I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologize for disappointing them,” John said in a statement. “I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well.”
