Pitching Leads William Penn to Split with C-SC
Canton, Mo.–Chyanne Koko (Jr., Waianae, Hawaii, Physical Education) and Tabitha Scott (So., Placentia, Calif., Psychology) were both exceptional on the rubber Sunday as the Statesmen softball team battled to a doubleheader split in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.
WPU (17-18, 5-11 Heart) won the opener 1-0 (9 innings), but dropped the nightcap 1-0.
Koko was not only a dominating figure in the pitching circle, but also landed success at the plate. After the sides combined for eight scoreless innings, the junior, who finished with two hits, led off the ninth frame with a single. She was then moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt and eventually scored the game’s only run on a throwing error.
The navy and gold also had chances in the first, fifth, and sixth frames (third base in the sixth), but failed to bring any runners across in those situations.
Koko battled through a few tense moments, stranding runners in scoring position four times. She struck out six Wildcats and walked two in nine scoreless innings.
The Statesmen finished with a 5-4 edge in hits.
Scott was even better in the second matchup, but was unable to join Koko in the winner’s circle. After giving up a two-out single in the bottom of the first, the sophomore rolled through the Culver-Stockton (16-14, 10-11 Heart) lineup, retiring 16 straight to get to the seventh inning knotted in another scoreless tie.
WPU held a 4-2 edge in hits and advanced runners into scoring position in three frames, but failed to score. Brooklyn Bantz (Jr., Smithville, Mo., Psychology and Human Services) topped the visitors with two hits.
Unfortunately, the Statesmen ended up on the negative side of a late score as Katie Kroll closed the twinbill with a lead-off solo home run.
Scott tallied one strikeout in the loss.
Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa Tuesday to host Graceland in a Heart doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.

Steve Perry To Attend Journey’s Induction Into Rock Hall
Get your DVR’s set Journey fans.
Though Steve Perry has been relatively quiet when it comes to Journey’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 7th, former bandmate Jonathan Cain says that Perry will be there.
During and interview with the Dayton Daily News, Cain revealed one of the reasons he is looking forward to the ceremony is to catch up with Perry.
“The ceremony is the first time we’re going to get to see Steve Perry in a long time,” said Cain. “So that’ll be fun.”
With the news coming out, people will expect a reunion, even if it’s just for the night. Cain, however, does not see that happening.
“As far as we know, he’s just going to accept the award and then skedaddle,” he added. “That’s all I know, unless something changes.”
Current Journey singer Arnel Pineda will be on hand to “represent very well, like he always does”, according to the Journey Keyboardist.
“Arnel has been consistently on the road for 10 years now,” pointed out Cain. “I don’t think any singer in the band has stayed on the road as long as Arnel has. When we think back to the Steve Perry days, he wasn’t in the band for 10 years straight, faithfully being the road singer.”

Iowa Lawmakers Consider Making Most 911 Calls Confidential
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A fast-moving Iowa bill would eliminate the public’s right to access 911 calls involving emergencies in which people are injured, sealing key information about public safety.
The House has approved the measure and a Senate committee will discuss it Thursday.
The bill declares that 911 calls involving injured victims are medical records and exempt from Iowa’s open records law. That means authorities’ initial response to shootings, stabbings and many other incidents would face less scrutiny.
Calls involving juveniles would all be confidential.
GOP Rep. Dean Fisher says the legislation comes in response to the release of 911 calls to The Associated Press last year that exposed a string of gun accidents in Tama County that killed two teens and injured a third.
Fisher says medical privacy outweighs the public’s right-to-know.
Buckingham & McVie Announce Concert Together
Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie have been trying to make a new Fleetwood Mac album for the last three years. After writing together for the album and Stevie Nicks’ deciding to not participate, they’re releasing it on their own. They’ve also decided to perform together outside of the group.
They are booked to play the amphitheatre at the Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery in Woodinville, Washington, on July 19th.
Tickets are currently on sale at Ticketmaster, and they’ll cost $59.50 for the lawn and $99.50 for the pavillion. The show will take place only three days after Fleetwood Mac perform at Classic West, a two-day festival at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. At this time, it’s unknown if Buckingham and McVie will announce any other dates leading up to or after Fleetwood Mac’s Classic East slot on July 30.
The duo’s album is expected to be titled Buckingham McVie.
“We’ve always written well together, Lindsey and I,” Christine said, “and this has just spiraled into something really amazing that we’ve done between us.”
Rumor has it that the album features contributions from John McVie and Mick Fleetwood. Fleetwood praised the record last week.
“It came under the heading of music that had to come out. Chris is full of vim and vigor, which is mind-blowing, and I’m really happy for Lindsey, because this is what he most likes to do – putting something together. This relationship is a real expression of a musical powerhouse that’s come to the fore, and we’re all happy about that. It’s really cool. I think they’ll be walking down some red carpets with this one.”

David Bowie’s NYC Condo is Up For Sale
The condo in which David Bowie and his wife, Iman, used to call home has hit the market. The three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath NYC apartment is in the legendary Essex House building. It is currently listed at $6.5 million.
The couple lived in the apartment beginning in 1992 and lived there for a decade, before selling in 2002. If Bowie owning the place isn’t enough for die-hard fans looking to buy a piece of music history, anchoring the estates living room is a Yamaha Piano that Bowie left behind.
Pictures of the estate were posted on social media by Karl Fletcher. You can check them out below:
