“Brooding in Bangkok”

Not a fan of airports? Well, imagine being the family currently living in the Bangkok, Thailand airport. The brood, which includes four adults and four kids, are from Zimbabwe and first entered Thailand in May on tourist visas. Back in October, they tried to fly to Spain, but didn’t have Spanish visas.

That’s when their travel woes really started. The family had overstayed their Thai tourist visas, so they weren’t allowed back in to Thailand. That was two-months-ago and they’ve been residing in the Bangkok airport ever since.

The family is refusing to go back to Zimbabwe out of what they claim is fear for their safety. While waiting to find out if they’ve been given the asylum they’ve applied for, airlines have been providing them food and passengers even gave them Christmas presents.

ONE MORE THING! This scenario probably sounds familiar to plenty of Tom Hanks fans. This family’s story echoes the plot of The Terminal. In the movie Hanks’ character gets stuck in a New York airport after his government collapses.

“All About the Ice”

Millions of Americans may be extremely cold, but Josh Darnell wasn’t about to let freezing weather get him down. The 31-year-old decided to propose to his girlfriend Rachel Raske after they climbed to a scenic spot on Tuckerman’s Ravine, on New Hampshire’s Mount Washington. Oh, and that day temperatures reached minus 34 degrees on the summit.

Darnell’s dad, Doug, joined the adventure to capture the proposal and he vouched for how tough the weather was. In fact, he said when he got out of the car, the wind was so strong it knocked him over.

Turns out, all the hard work was worth it. Rachel said yes.

“Fitness in the Nude”

Sick of doing sweaty gym laundry? You’re in luck… if you’ve gotten plenty of self confidence. New York City’s Hanson Fitness is now offering fully naked workout classes. What’s more, they offer classes for men, for women, and a co-ed option.

“Our approach makes sure our members get and stay in the absolute best shape, and our new naked personal fitness sessions are no exception,” Hanson studio founder Harry Hanson explains. “This new development brings with it a range of fitness and health benefits and allows our members to have a little cheeky fun in the process!”

According to Hanson Fitness, working out nude keeps you cooler, releases endorphins, increases body awareness and gives you unrestricted movement.

STUPID CRIMINALS:

“Tip Your Server”

A McDonald’s employee in Peoria, Illinois was given way more than a tip when an unknown customer came to the drive-thru and handed him a wad of cash… and a baggie of cocaine. The employee figures the woman accidentally handed over the coke. It’s unclear if they have any leads on the accidentally generous, and criminal, customer.

“Full of It”

It’s unclear how police discovered this, but Stephen Perkins had 110 bags of crack inside his intestines. The 27-year-old was picked up along with four other suspects after they opened fire on a man. All five men were charged with aggravated trafficking of a scheduled drug among other crimes.

“Unfit to Ride”

Remember Donna Byrne? The 53-year-old who was slapped with a DUI while riding her horse down a busy highway in Lakeland, Florida? Well it looks like she won’t be given the chance to reoffend. In case you missed it, a judge has decided she’s not fit to care for the horse. Byrne will also have to complete an alcohol treatment program.

‘Offbeat News’ for December 29th

The people of Lorraine, New York probably never want to see another snowflake again. The local fire department was called to a resident’s house after six feet of snow fell and trapped her inside her home.

The Lorraine Volunteer Fire Company took to Facebook and shared photos of the woman’s buried home along with a message asking residents to check on their neighbors. (Photo Below)

Does your weekly yoga session leave you a bit sore the next day? Well you’ve got nothing on Kavitha Bharanidaran. The Indian woman is currently in the midst of a record breaking yoga session.

The 30-year-old mother started her session on December 23rd at 7 am and beat the previous record of 103 hours on day five. The craziest part? She’s not stopping. Kavitha plans on keeping the session going until December 30th.

STUPID CRIMINALS:

Despite what his clothes say, you should absolutely not trust Wilmer Lara Garcia. The Falls Church, Virginia man is being charged with stealing a car that was warming up with the help of an accomplice. During his arrest, authorities also found multiple forged checks. The best part? Garcia was wearing a shirt that read “Trust Me” as he was being taken in.

Lindy Lou Layman had way too much liquid courage on her date with prominent Houston trial lawyer Anthony Buzbee. He claims she got too drunk so he called her an Uber once they got back to his apartment but Layman refused to leave and hid. Buzbee called a second Uber, which is when 29-year-old Layman got aggressive. Authorities say she tore down several paintings and poured red wine on some while cursing. She also allegedly threw two $20,000 sculptures across the room, shattering them. Two of the damaged paints were by non-other than Andy Warhol. Layman is now being charged with criminal mischief.

Harris Rahaman is the latest person to come into contact with the Fuji fugitive. He was working at a gas station in Fort Lauderdale, Florida when a man came in and asked where the Fiji water was. Then, he took out a gun and threatened to shoot Rahaman in 10 seconds if he didn’t get enough money. It turns out the perp has done the same Fiji set up in multiple other robberies around Florida. Local police are asking for help in identifying the thirsty criminal.

‘Offbeat News’ for December 28th

For Jacki and Josh Grossman, Christmas Eve has a new tradition: newborns. The couple welcomed their second child, Elliott, on December 24th, four years to the day their older son, Oliver came into the world. What’s more, the same doctor delivered both Grossman boys.

Jacki says she “couldn’t feel more blessed” that her sons share their special day. As for Oliver, he seems pretty pumped, too. According to mom, the four-year-old ran around the hospital spreading the news.

TSA agents at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport were in for a surprise when they spotted a dead cougar in a man’s suitcase. The cougar appeared to have a Utah State Fish and Game tag but officials held the passenger while they investigated.

In the end, no crime was committed and the unidentified man shipped the cougar body to wherever his next destination was.

“It is not a crime to transport game that is legal to possess via airlines,” Police Lieutenant David Gordon said. “However, airlines reserve the right to tell passengers they do not want to transport certain items.” Now you know!

STUPID CRIMINALS:

A man in Akron, Ohio might want to go into crafts instead of crime. The unnamed person walked into a store and waved what first appeared to be a rifle. After an employee saw the gun was fake, he confronted the would-be burglar with the help of three customers and kept him subdued until cops came. After some investigating, the man was found to be in possession of a pole, a fake scope, a spring and two table legs fastened together to look like a rifle. He’s now facing a robbery charge.

A 22-year-old man walked into a Wisconsin salon to get the sides of his head shaved and an inch cut off the top. Apparently he was too fidgety because according to the unidentified client, stylist Khaled A. Shabani began to twist the customer’s ear and eventually snipped the man’s ear with his scissors. According to Shabani, the nick was unintentional. Oh, the stylist then ran the clipper down the middle of the customer’s head which left him looking, as police said, “a bit like Larry from the ‘Three Stooges.'” The customer had to go and get his head shaved before heading home for the holidays while Shabani was hit with a tentative charge of mayhem and disorderly conduct while armed charge.

If nothing else, Nicole Hunter won’t let anything get in her way. Unfortunately for her, this time that meant trying to do cocaine in a police station. Hunter, who was at the station after picked up for causing a disturbance, must have been spotted by one of the no doubt many police officers around and was hit with possession charges. She’s set to head to court next month.

It’s been a very happy holiday season for Alan Robinson and Walter Macfarlane. The two Hawaiians have been friends since sixth grade, which was more than 60-years-ago. It turns out they’ve actually been brothers this whole time.

Robinson was adopted and Macfarlane never knew his father. It turns out both men used Ancestry.com to find out more about their family histories. That’s how they discovered they are biological brothers.

“It was an overwhelming experience, it’s still overwhelming,” Robinson says. “I don’t know how long it’s going to take for me to get over this feeling. This is the best Christmas present I could ever imagine having.” According to Macfarlane, it’s a “Christmas miracle.”

Raja the cat is quite a traveler. The feline went missing from its owners in Florida back in 2014. A concerned citizen brought Raja to a shelter in Georgetown, Delaware, where it was discovered the feline had been microchipped.

After doing some investigating, Raja’s owners, the Tuttle family, were found in Virginia. The Tuttles drove up to Delaware and were reunited with their kitty.

On his big day, a groom stopped to get a haircut. He also picked up a Powerball ticket. And while on their honeymoon, the newlyweds discovered they were $50-thousand richer.

Naturally, they didn’t believe it at first and they called their parents to verify what they were seeing. After getting a $50K confirmation, they started jumping up and down.

Once they got back from their trip, the lovebirds stopped by the Maryland Lottery office. They plan on using their money to pay bills and start their lives together.

STUPID CRIMINALS:

If you’re a fugitive, you’ve got to lay low. Not only did Ernesto Rodriguez-Zazueta try to rob a store in the Newark, New Jersey airport, but he did so on the busiest travel weekend of the year. The 46-year-old, who was on the Drug Enforcement Agency’s most wanted list, put up a fight when officers tried to arrest him. Now Rodriguez-Zazueta is facing robbery, resisting arrest and hindering apprehension charges.

Michael Joseph Oleksik punched an ATM in Cocoa, Florida back in November. Why? Because it gave him more money than he asked for. The 22-year-old was caught on camera attacked the ATM. Oleksik then called the bank to explain that he was “angry the ATM was giving him too much money and he did not know what to do.” The bank decided to press charges, which means Oleksik now has a criminal mischief charge to deal with.

As if moving across the country wasn’t stressful enough, Betty and John Moore also had to deal with their cat Buddy running away. The Moores made the move from Tillamook, Oregon to Shreveport, Louisiana without Buddy, but traveled back multiple times to try and find it.

The Moores figured their feline was gone for good…until about year-and-a-half after their move, when Buddy showed up at the Tillamook organization United Paws. Now, United Paws is raising money to get Buddy home to the Moores for Christmas. So far, United Paws has raised more than $16-hundred.

“What are the odds of people actually finding him,” John Moore says. “It’s a great story – homeless kitty found at homeless shelter trying to get home for Christmas.”

For Giuseppina Projetto, life has been sweet for a long time. At 115 years old, the Italian woman is now the oldest living European. She’s also the third-oldest person alive in the world, behind two Japanese women.

Projetto lives with her family near Florence and while she hasn’t given a list of ways to make it to her age, she does swear by chocolate.

After an unsuccessful trip to the casino, Leon and Karin Greenberg headed back to their Ossining, New York home. Using the money they had left, Karin bought a lotto ticket and decided to splurge on a $25 scratch-off. Good thing she did because the couple won the $7-million jackpot.

Leon says he and his wife are taking the lump sum, which is around $4-million. The 69-year-old is going to keep working, but cut down on his hours. As for how he’s going to spend the money, Leon says it’s going to his five children and eight grandchildren.

Beyond that, he’s going to hit the golf course more often and take Karin on a Las Vegas vacation.

STUPID CRIMINALS

This is certainly not what Jesus would do. Police in West Bend, Wisconsin are looking for the person who removed the head and arm of a baby Jesus statue from a local nativity scene. The arm has been recovered but the head is still missing. Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time someone has vandalized the Nativity scene. The baby Jesus was stolen from the Nativity sometime in the 1970s or late 1980s, and a donkey was stolen in 2013.

In general, it’s best to avoid getting into a brawl. If you happen to be walking through a mall with a stroller when a fight breaks out, you should definitely avoid the action. Unfortunately, a woman at the Edison Mall in Florida did just the opposite. The unidentified shopper was involved in a massive fight outside of a Victoria’s Secret. It’s unclear why the melee started or if anyone was arrested, but security footage shows the woman with the stroller kicking another woman in the head. Police are investigating.

Claudell Curr and his wife Odell Marie Curry were watching TV in their San Bernardino, California living room when they felt their whole house shake. After some investigating, they discovered a hunk of ice the size of a bowling ball ripped through the roof in their bedroom.

According to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor, it’s likely the ice came from a passing plane. Fortunately, 82-year-old Claudell and 83-year-old Odell weren’t injured, but they’re still shaken by the incident.

“We shiver every time we think we could have been in bed,” Claudell says. “The wife is still nervous, but we are doing okay. It was quite a traumatic experience.”

There’s a monkey on the lamb in Japan. Over the past week, there have been more than two dozen sightings of the animal around Tokyo and authorities believe it’s the same primate.

The furry guy, who is estimated to be 28-inches long, is smart, too. The monkey was chased by a group of 20 people with nets, but it managed to escape.

For one tribe in India, kissing in public is frowned upon…accept during the “longest kiss” contest. This year, around 20 couples competed in the event held at the Sidho-Kanho fair.

The winners smooched for three hours and walked away with the grand prize: a goat.

STUPID CRIMINALS:

Mark Stetter appreciates a good discount. So much so, he’s willing to break the law. The 48-year-old from Buffalo, New York claimed to be a detective to try and get some money off his Starbucks order. To really sell it, Stetter flashed a fake badge and a gun inside of a holster attached to his belt. He then went another coffee shop after it had closed, and again displayed a fake badge in an attempt to get in. It didn’t work and at some point the actual cops were alerted. Stetter is now facing an impersonating a police officer charge.
A 23-year-old man claims he was walking down the street with a bag of fast food in Hamden, Connecticut when he was approached by a man who flashed a gun, then grabbed his “bag of cheeseburgers” and ran. The perp didn’t take anything else, it seems. Local authorities are investigating.
Kayla Marie Smith thought there was an intruder at the door of her Spring Grove, Florida home. The 30-year-old decided to handle the situation and shoot at him. The problem? Not only was there no intruder, but Smith was impaired at the time she shot the gun. Smith is now locked up on charges of discharging of a firearm inside an occupied structure and recklessly endangering another person.

Imagine going to relax in front of the TV and finding a snake, but not just any snake. A man in Cooroy, Australia stumbled upon an eight-foot-long python relaxing on his couch.

Snake Catcher Luke Huntley responded to the scene and says the serpent was the largest he’s ever caught indoors. He also admits to getting a few laughs about how the snake seemed to be lounging around.

Huntley’s tip for keeping snakes out of your house? Keep your windows and doors closed.

Alwine, Germany now has a new owner. The town, which has a population of 20, was put up for auction. It wasn’t exactly a bidding war, though. Only one person was willing to cough up any money and ended up snagging Alwine for $164-thousand-900.

It’s unclear at this point what the anonymous buyer is planning on doing with his or her latest purchase or what Alwine’s current residents, who are mostly retirees, think about it.

A very lucky lady lives in Maryland. The unidentified 54-year-old bought a lotto scratch-off card that ended up being worth $2-million. This isn’t her first time at the rodeo, though. A few years ago, this same woman won $100-thousand on another scratch-off.

This time around, the winner kept the exciting news to herself, going to work and not telling anyone until she got home.

She decided to receive her jackpot in annuity, which comes to about $66-thousand a year for the next 20 years.

STUPID CRIMINALS:

If you’re going to travel with more than 10 pounds of methamphetamine, make sure you follow all other traffic laws. In case you missed it, police in Pratt County, Kansas pulled a car over for a routine traffic stop. After finding probable cause for a search of the car, they hit the narcotics jackpot with the massive meth haul. All in all, the drugs are worth about $404,000 on the street.
Jamie Esposito subscribes to the go big or go home method. The 32-year-old is being charged with stealing 144 bottles of nail polish from Bayonne, New Jersey CVS, worth around $14-hundred. She was pegged for the crime after getting caught stealing from a nearby Rite Aid. That time, Esposito was found in possession of $64 worth of formula. Authorities also discovered drugs on her. It’s unclear what exactly Esposito ended up being charged with.
A 16-year-old babysitter figured if he had to watch a 10-year-old, he might as well put him to work…as his accomplice. Police in Rochester got a call about a child dragging a suitcase along the street. When cops arrived, they found the suitcase was filled with goods from a recent burglary, which they tied to the teenage babysitter. Oh, and for what it’s worth, the babysitter gave cops a fake name and age. They figured it out, though, and charged the unidentified minor with burglary, two counts of grand larceny, criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal impersonation. The unknowing accomplice was released to his parents.

‘Offbeat News’ for 12-6-17

Inflight WiFi is a relatively new luxury and people are already ruining it for all of us. Take the flyer who named his WiFi network “bomb on board.” Thanks to the name choice, a flight from Kenya to Turkey with 100 passengers on board had to make an unscheduled stop in Sudan.

Once on the ground, the plane was inspected and it was decided there was no bomb or any other safety threat. After that, the flight made its way to its final destination.

It’s unclear if person with a terrible sense of humor was singled out or if charges were filed.

Residents of Rockland County, New York are being warned to keep an eye out for a coywolf: part coyote, part wolf.

Technically, the large animal is an eastern coyote, but according to a wildlife expert who’s caught this type of animal before, it is a genetic mix between a coyote and a wolf due to cross breeding in the wild.

So far, this particular coywolf has only been spotted twice, and no injuries were reported. If the animal is seen a third time and acting aggressively, authorities say they will have to act.

Zippy has gone missing. The town of Deerfield, New Hampshire has been using Zippy as their own, life-size Elf on a Shelf but someone has stolen the mischievous elf.

The Deerfield Rescue Squad took to social media to announce Zippy’s disappearance and assured the public this was not a prank. “This is not a joke or a game,” the squad explains, “we are very upset about someone choosing to ruin the fun for Deerfield’s children.”

So far, Zippy is still MIA.

STUPID CRIMINALS:

If you’ve been to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you’ve seen the Tree of Life. But seeing wasn’t enough for a group of four park visitors, who decided they just had to climb it. Probably not surprisingly, Disney World security acted “swiftly” and brought the climbers down. It’s unclear if any charges have been filed at this point.

Justin Thompson, who was on the run for assault, thought he could get away from Scranton, Pennsylvania police by climbing through the crawl space of his girlfriend’s house. Somehow, the 29-year-old managed to wiggle his way through the kitchen ceiling…which is where he fell straight to the ground and directly in front of cops. Since he happened to fall near where children were, Thompson is facing a felony count of endangering the welfare of children. He’s also been hit with misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and recklessly endangering another person. Thompson’s girlfriend, 26-year-old Shaolin Miller, was charged with a felony count of hindering apprehension for good measure.

John Dardis had planned a romantic weekend away with his girlfriend Suzannah Newham in Cornwall, England. What’s more, he was going to propose as they walked along the cliffs. When he went to kneel down, however, he slipped on wet ground and broke his ankle.

The coastguard had to be called to come rescue John, but he was of sane mind enough to realize even with a broken ankle, the cliff was more romantic than a hospital room.

As the Newquay Coastguard put it, John literally fell for her. The feeling is mutual- Suzannah said yes. “It was an unfortunate accident but John was very stoic,” Regie Butler, Newquay Coastguard rescue officer, adds. “The best man’s got the best speech to give now.”

Researchers at the Chinese Culture University in Taipei, Taiwan noticed a rainbow in the sky. They claim it stuck around for nine hours and they were so excited, they took pictures of it from every angle. They’re going to need those photos if they want the record for the longest rainbow on record, though.

As of now, the record holder is a rainbow that lasted six hours in Yorkshire, England back in 1994. So far, the people at Guinness haven’t confirmed that Taiwan now has the title, but according to the researchers, it’s only a matter of time. Just three days earlier, climate observers at the Chinese Culture University claimed there was another rainbow that lasted some six hours.

STUPID CRIMINALS:

Authorities in Sea Girt, New Jersey couldn’t figure out who was responsible for tearing the wires of the town’s Christmas tree and display. After keeping an eye on the scene, cops discovered it wasn’t human hands or teeth that nearly ruined Christmas, but a squirrel’s. The animal was “charged” with criminal mischief and released on bail. Fortunately, workers were able to repair the cords in time to light the tree.

Sabra Bewley is a mess. Police got a call about the 27-year-old, who was driving the wrong way on the highway in Sparks, Nevada. When they arrived on the scene, they discovered Bewley and her car 20-yards up a hill nearby the road.

The full-grown woman was acting erratically and dancing on top of her SUV before attempting to get away on a kid’s scooter.

All in all Bewley is facing a drunk driving charge along with drug charges and resisting arrest.

It’s not clear what Sahar Tabar loves more: Angelina Jolie or plastic surgery. The 19-year-old woman from Iran says she’s Angie’s biggest fan and she would “do anything” to emulate her. Apparently, that means undergoing 50 plastic surgeries.

Tabar’s Instagram has more than 460-thousand followers, but her unique look has also brought on plenty of haters. One follower even called her a “zombie.” At this point, there’s no way to know how much of Tabar’s look is due to surgery and how much can be chalked up to makeup.

Sometimes it takes a little while for a guilty conscience to kick in. For one person in St. Paul, Minnesota, it took three decades. Enter South St. Paul police chief Bill Messerich, who opened a letter sent to him and found $1-thousand.

Included was a note apologizing for a hit and run committed in either 1985 or 1986. The anonymous sender asked for forgiveness and wondered whether police could track down the victim and give him or her the cash.

The sender asked that if the driver can’t be tracked down that the money be given to a police charity. Fortunately for the South St. Paul PD, their records don’t go back that far so the money was deposited into the police department’s general donation account and will be used to buy new equipment or technology.

Goodwill stores wouldn’t be able to continue without donations. That doesn’t mean you can donate whatever you want, however. For example, it’s best not to drop off a hand grenade.

While going through a box that was dropped off, an employee at the Placentia, California store spotted the military weapon. Understandably, authorities were called and to air on the side of caution, a bomb squad was called in to remove the grenade safely.

Police are investigating, but all we know is that a woman dropped off the explosive donation.

STUPID CRIMINALS:

Police in Revere, Massachusetts had a particularly smelly crook on their hands. Steven Spolidoro is accused of walking into a bank, demanding money, and fleeing with $1-thousand. An off-duty cop who was nearby provided a description of 41-year-old Spolidoro’s car, which was spotted in Boston. After a chase, officers saw the man abandon his car and run off on foot. He was eventually discovered and arrested inside a port-a-potty near the TD Garden arena.
