Neil Young has announced a new album, Second Song, marking his second album with the Chrome Hearts.

Their first album together was Talkin to the Trees, released in 2025, and featuring drummer Anthony LoGerfo, bassist Corey McCormick, guitarist Micah Nelson and keyboardist Spooner Oldham.

Second Song is due to be released on vinyl, CD, and digitally on September 18, via Reprise Records.

The new album consists of seven tracks, five of which are brand-new to Young’s fans, while the remaining two, “Casting Me Away From You” and “I’ll Love You Forever,” are new versions on Second Song. Second Song was produced at Shangri-La studio.

Young has announced his upcoming live performance at Farm Aid next month. The event is scheduled on September 26 at the Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater in Virginia Beach. It will also feature Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews, Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff, Turnpike Troubadours and many more.

Due to overwhelming demand, new shows have been added to The Eagles’ residency at Sphere in Las Vegas. Four additional shows have been scheduled for January 15, 16, 22, and 23.

The band already had 10 concerts scheduled for September, November, and December. By adding more concerts, they have increased the total number of shows at Sphere to 72, thus making it the longest concert residency at the venue.

A new documentary, celebrating the late Rush drummer Neil Peart, is set to debut on Canada’s CBC Network on September 23rd.

The Banger Films-created movie, titled Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple, documents Peart’s rise to stardom from extremely tough younger days.

The documentary features interviews with Rush co-founders Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson as well as reflections of several acclaimed drummers. The movie also features Lee and Lifeson’s live performances of Rush classics with support from Chad Smith, Steward Copeland and Danny Carey.

“I think it matters for me to play better all the time, and to play my best all the time, to keep it fresh and changing. It’s kind of my responsibility, I see it, as a drummer,” Peart says in an archival interview in the film, directed by Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn.

Peart passed away on January 7, 2020 in Santa Monica, California after a long battle with glioblasoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Lee revealed a couple of years later that Peart wanted to keep his cancer diagnosis a secret prior to his death.

“[Peart] didn’t want anyone to know [about his illness],” Lee said on Canadian talk show “House Of Strombo.” “He just didn’t. He wanted to keep it in the house. And we did. And that was hard. I can’t tell you it was easy, ’cause it was not easy. And it was ongoing. His diagnosis was… he was given 18 months at the most, and it went on three and a half years. And so that was a constant flow of us going to see him, giving him support.”

Legendary rocker Joan Jett, who recently underwent surgery for a fractured vertebra, has canceled a couple of shows in September.

Jett was scheduled to perform in Costa Mesa, California, and Louisville, Kentucky, in September.

A social media post from Joan’s team reads, “Following a recent injury, Joan Jett has undergone orthopedic surgery on a fractured vertebrae and will begin the necessary healing process. In close consultation with her doctors, Joan will not be able to perform at her forthcoming September scheduled shows in Costa Mesa, CA on September 5th and in Louisville, KY on September 24th.”

“While Joan hates to disappoint fans, she will be taking this time to focus on physical therapy and healing,” the post continues. “She’s looking forward to delivering tremendous concerts for many years to come.”

Meanwhile Joan Jett & The Blackhearts are working to reissue their seminal 1981 album I Love Rock ‘N Roll as a 45th-anniversary edition. The updated set will be available on CD and opaque sky blue vinyl on August 28 via Blackheart Records.

Believe, BMG, Concord, Dirty Hit, Glassnote Records, HYBE Corp., Mom+Pop Music, Partisan Records, Sony Music, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group have proposed a new set of principles to govern the eligibility of recordings developed with generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) services for inclusion in music charts.

The framework would establish a clear boundary between human-led creativity and works that are purely synthetic or generated by unauthorized AI models. It will also help to ensure that any tracks with a fraudulently boosted stream count are not recognized and celebrated in the charts.

These principles would enable official charts to accommodate appropriate use of AI in the creative process whilst remaining an authentic celebration of human artistry.

Under the proposed guidelines, a recording developed using AI would only qualify for chart inclusion if it meets three core criteria, including The AI service used is properly authorized and lawful; The track is substantially human made; and It does not raise stream or chart manipulation concerns.

The principles are intended to provide a unified road-map for the consideration of official chart compilers, industry bodies and affiliated stakeholders worldwide. Together, the organizations proposing these principles, said in a joint statement that they stand ready to work with charts and industry bodies around the world to discuss these principles and support implementation of these important safeguards for human creativity by charts and industry bodies.

Tracks created using generative AI systems have been appearing on streaming services, however many of these have been developed with tools that have been trained on artists’ music without authorization. These tracks are also commonly associated with streaming fraud. To tackle this, record companies are driving the development and licensing of AI music services that respect the rights of music creators.

Through the implementation of these principles, human creators will have further assurance that tracks manufactured via unauthorized algorithms unjustly built upon their work – or fraudulently promoted – will not be celebrated by industry charts.
