A new documentary, celebrating the late Rush drummer Neil Peart, is set to debut on Canada’s CBC Network on September 23rd.

The Banger Films-created movie, titled Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple, documents Peart’s rise to stardom from extremely tough younger days.

The documentary features interviews with Rush co-founders Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson as well as reflections of several acclaimed drummers. The movie also features Lee and Lifeson’s live performances of Rush classics with support from Chad Smith, Steward Copeland and Danny Carey.

“I think it matters for me to play better all the time, and to play my best all the time, to keep it fresh and changing. It’s kind of my responsibility, I see it, as a drummer,” Peart says in an archival interview in the film, directed by Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn.

Peart passed away on January 7, 2020 in Santa Monica, California after a long battle with glioblasoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Lee revealed a couple of years later that Peart wanted to keep his cancer diagnosis a secret prior to his death.

“[Peart] didn’t want anyone to know [about his illness],” Lee said on Canadian talk show “House Of Strombo.” “He just didn’t. He wanted to keep it in the house. And we did. And that was hard. I can’t tell you it was easy, ’cause it was not easy. And it was ongoing. His diagnosis was… he was given 18 months at the most, and it went on three and a half years. And so that was a constant flow of us going to see him, giving him support.”
