Ottumwa Noon Lions New Member Induction Ceremony
On Thursday, April 12, Ottumwa Noon Lions will be hosting their annual New Member Induction Ceremony. The annual event is a celebration following the annual member drive. Ottumwa Park Campgrounds Open April 1
The Ottumwa Park Campground will open for the season on April 1, 2018. The Ottumwa Park Campground is set amidst 340 acres of green space and lagoons providing an ideal place for enjoying the outdoors. Campsites with nearby paved trail access, four stocked fishing ponds and the Des Moines River and adjacent Wapello County Trails. All camping is available on a first-come, first-service basis. Sorry, no reservations are taken. No tents are allowed in the RV Section of the campground. Campers can use the shower house with restrooms and dumping station. Wi-fi is available.

Wapello County Children’s Alliance ‘Family Fun Night’ at the Library
The Wapello County Children’s Alliance is sponsoring a Family Fun Night at the Library on Friday, March 30 from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm in the Ottumwa Public Library. This will be a free “after hours” event for families to come and spend time together at the library. There will be free supper and multiple events going on for all age levels including crafts, Legos, board games, computers, and movies. Mary Street Closure in Ottumwa
Motorists are advised that Mary Street at the intersection of Sheridan Avenue in Ottumwa will be temporarily closing starting Tuesday, March 27. The closure is in association with the Sheridan Avenue Reconstruction project and will allow for the installation of a new water main. During this work, Mary Street will be narrowed to one lane of traffic, with intermittent complete closures. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes around the work zone. With favorable weather conditions, the temporary lane restrictions and closures are anticipated through the end of next week.
CANCELLED – City of Ottumwa Fishing Derby
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has cancelled the trout stocking that was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 24. The weather forecast in the upper part of the state predicts heavy rain/snow with high winds. For safety reasons, the trucks carrying the trout will not be on the road. A news release will be sent out at a later date if it is rescheduled.

IHCC Offering Free High School Equivalency Classes
(OTTUMWA, Iowa) – Indian Hills Community College is offering a path for interested people to earn their high school equivalency diploma in as little as two months and the next courses begin in April.
Interested parties may attend an orientation meeting about earning their High School Equivalency Diploma on Tuesday, April 3 at 9:00 AM in the Community Education Center at the North Campus of Indian Hills Community College (15260 Truman Street, Suite 2, Ottumwa, IA).
The orientation lends to a quick turnaround. Classes will begin the following Monday, April 9. Morning and afternoon classes are available, and students are encouraged to work at their own pace. Online classes are also available.
Participants are eligible to take the HiSET if they are 19 or older and not enrolled in high school OR if they are 17 or 18, out of school, and have parental permission.
Indian Hills Community College offers HiSET (High School Equivalency Tests, formerly GED) preparation courses and materials at no cost. To sign up or learn more, call 641-683-5747.
