On this day in 1970, The Who recorded Live At Leeds at Leeds University, England. Live at Leeds has been cited by several music critics as the best live rock recording of all time. The University of Leeds refectory has now been named a national landmark in the UK, commemorated with a blue plaque.

Boston Heading Out on Tour in 2017

Boston is heading out this spring for they Hyper Space Tour. The band is kicking it off on April 14 in Hollywood, Florida, and as of right now, the first two weeks are scheduled for dates in the South, including cities in Alabama, Louisiana, and Arkansas, before wrapping up on April 26 in Little Rock.

You can see the full list of announced tour dates below. According to a press release for the tour, more than four dozen shows are scheduled for North America this year. More dates will follow.

The band’s official website will update with more shows for the upcoming tour as they are scheduled.

Flying Mattress Causes Four Car Accident

There are plenty of causes of a car accident, but a flying mattress? That’s new. Someone was driving down the I-41 in Suamico, Wisconsin when the mattress on top of their car get loose.

The bed ended up causing a four car accident but luckily, no one was seriously injured. Two cars were seriously damaged, though, causing a traffic jam.

Evel Knievel’s Jumpsuit Can Be Yours

You may not be as gutsy as Evel Knievel, but at least you can dress like him. The daredevil’s iconic red, white and blue jumpsuit is going up for sale.

A decade after Knievel’s death, his family is putting decided to put some of his most iconic items up for auction, including his red, white, and blue jumpsuit and his bedazzled walking stick. The daredevil’s jumpsuit is expected to pull in somewhere around $80-thousand. His cane, which doubled as a flask, is already at $19-thousand.

Couple Has A 25-Hundred Pound Pet Buffalo

Forget your cats and dogs, Ronnie and Sherron Bridges prefer their pets massive. The Texas couple has been living with a pet buffalo for the last decade, who now weighs in at over 25-hundred pounds.

“He is the real life bull in a china shop although I’m surprised he doesn’t do more damage with his 400lbs head when he comes and goes as he pleases,” Ronnie says of the animal, dubbed Wild Thing. “It’s like a car coming through the house, he has his own room where he watches TV but his favourite room requires a bit of furniture moving to get him in each time.”

The Bridges admit Wild Thing has almost killed them simply because of his size, but they have no plans to get rid of him.

Hitler lookalike arrested walking around Hitler’s hometown:

If you’re a Adolph Hitler lookalike and you’re walking around the former dictator’s Austrian hometown, people are going to take notice. The 25-year-old, who goes by “Harald Hitler,” was arrested under a 1947 Austrian law which made it illegal to promote Nazi ideology. It’s unclear what kind of punishment he’s looking at.

Someone stole a penguin from a German zoo:

The Luisenpark zoo in Germany is on the hunt for whoever stole a penguin from its exhibit. Police searched the area and couldn’t find the animal, which makes the zoo think the penguin was stolen. It’ll be hard to sell, however, because it has a microchip implanted and the number 53 on its wing. Trying to appeal to the animal lovers out there, Luisenpark says the penguin’s health could suffer from being away from its special diet and controlled environment.

ICYMI: Drunk driver hits six cars before hitting a home:

There are many signs a person is driving drunk, but hitting six cars before eventually landing at a house? It doesn’t seem like a sobriety test is necessary after that. What’s more, the unnamed 28-year-old from Green Bay, Wisconsin who left that trail of wreckage behind then fled from police. In case you missed it, authorities sent out a K-9 unit who tracked down the man and arrested him at his own apartment. He’s been booked into the local jail and is facing a drunk driving charge and other traffic violations.

After Rights Dispute, Reunited Ratt Play First Concert

After a courtroom tug of war over the right’s to the Ratt name, the reunited band took the stage February 11th at the Treasure Island Resort and Casino in Welch, Minnesota.

The trademark dispute nearly disrupted the reunion, as singer Stephen Pearcy, bassist Juan Croucier and guitarist Warren DeMartini went against drummer Bobby Blotzer.

Blotzer had assembled his own version of the group after the others refused to tour, and still, has control of Ratt’s website and social media feeds, but in the meantime, his former bandmates are moving ahead with a growing list of upcoming projects and concert obligations.

Ratt has already lined up a number of festival performances throughout the year, including Rocklahoma.

Ratt’s current lineup, which is rounded out by guitarist Carlos Cavazo and drummer Jimmy DeGrasso, is reportedly working on new material for a follow-up to the band’s most recent release, 2010’s Infestation.

Subject Arrested in Sexual Assault Case in Fremont

On Sunday, February 12^th, 2017, at approximately 3 PM, deputies from the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 218 North Kennedy Street, Fremont, Iowa, regarding the complaint of a Sexual Assault with had allegedly occurred earlier in the day at this location.

The victim (an adult female) was taken to the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospital where she was treated for an undisclosed injury and then released.

During the investigation into this report, deputies located and arrested 41-year-old Chad Michael Crosby (of 218 North Kennedy Street) within the Fremont City Limits. Crosby was charged with one count of Domestic Abuse Causing Injury (a serious misdemeanor) and one count of Sexual Abuse in the 3^rd Degree (a class “C” felony). Crosby was incarcerated in the Mahaska County Jail.

Crosby made his initial appearance in the Mahaska County Magistrate’s Court on Monday, February 13, 2017. Crosby’s bond was set in the amount of $15,000 for the above two charges. After posting bond, Crosby was released from custody.

As a reminder, a criminal charge is merely an accusation and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

On this day in 1971, The Osmonds started a five-week run at #1 on the US singles chart with “One Bad Apple”. The song also reached number six on the R&B chart.Billboard ranked it as the No. 4 song for 1971. It was certified Gold by the RIAA on February 4, 1971.

Songwriter, George Jackson, had the Jackson 5 in mind when he wrote it. The Osmonds’ version coincidentally sounded like the Jackson 5 to the point many mistook the Osmonds for the Jacksons on the song when first hearing it.

According to Donny Osmond, Michael Jackson later told him that the Jackson 5 almost recorded this song first, but chose to record “ABC” instead.

“One Bad Apple” was also used as the theme to The Osmonds cartoon show on ABC-TV.

Shooting in Ottumwa Near Wilson Elementary

Reports have come out about a shooting near Wilson Elementary School in Ottumwa between Ash & Ogden. The shots have thought to be fired in the 10:00 am hour. The victim was transported via an ambulance. There are approximately eight officers at the scene.

David Bowie Posthumously Goes Five for Five at the Grammys

After only ever winning one award at the Grammys, David Bowie finally got the appreciation his career deserved.

Bowie, posthumously, swept the awards show with Blackstar winning five of the five awards it was up for.

“Blackstar,” the title track from his final studio recording, topped Radiohead, Metallica, Twenty One Pilots and Highly Suspect for the trophy.

The album’s title track also claimed an award for Best Rock Performance tonight, getting past Disturbed‘s cover of Simon and Garfunkel‘s “The Sound of Silence,” among others. Blackstar earlier won in three album-focused categories: Best Alternative Album, Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical), and Best Recording Package. Best alternative music album nominees also included former Bowie collaborator

Donny McCaslin, Bowie’s principal collaborator on Blackstar, was shocked to find out about Bowie ever only receiving one grammy award.

“I remember as the press was hearing Blackstar right before it came out, I know that it meant a lot to him to see the acclaim it was getting,” McCaslin tells Forbes. “I was very surprised to learn that he’d only won one Grammy … I’m just so happy for him and his family and his fans.”

Bowie’s only win came back in 1985 in the best short-form video category for Jazzin’ for Blue Jean.
“This is his first music Grammy of any of his projects, so it’s kind of shocking” for someone who “had such an amazing presence in the business,” Blackstar engineer Kevin Killen told USA Today. “But these things happen and I’m sure most of us that work in the business don’t necessarily think about getting awards. It’s just about the joy of making music and I’m sure it was for him, too.”

College Offering A PhD In Chocolate

Thinking about going back to school? Well the University of the West of London is looking for a PhD candidate to study chocolate. More specifically, the “microbiota of fermented cacao beans.”

According to the school, there’s been a call from the chocolate industry for forensic info about how chocolate ends up tasting the way it does. The selected candidate will receive a $18,700 grant per year to continue their study.

Man Finds Almost $14K In Cocaine In His Chocolate Milk Powder

A man in Spain bought a tub of Nesquik powder at his local supermarket and discovered almost $13,700 worth of cocaine in a bag inside.

The unnamed shopper took the drugs to police, who confirmed it was cocaine. It’s unclear how the narcotics got there, but the man’s lawyers say drug traffickers may have targeted his client.

Regardless of how the cocaine got there, the shopper is suing the supermarket because he claims the media mocked him after news of the discovery surfaced, leaving him with “moral damage.”

Young Lotto Winner Is Considering Suing, Saying The Money Ruined Her Life

Regardless of your age, you’ve probably dreamt about winning the lotto. Scottish woman Jane Park did that at just 17, becoming the youngest EuroMillions winner in Britain’s history. Four years later, she’s considering suing the lottery, saying no one her age should have been allowed to play.

Park thinks the minimum age for playing the lotto should be 18, claiming the lottery is acting negligent by letting anyone 16 or older buy a ticket. Why is her life so hard, exactly? She says there’s “stress” that comes along with being a millionaire and it’s hard to find a boyfriend who isn’t after her money.

“I thought it would make it ten times better but it’s made it ten times worse. I wish I had no money most days. I say to myself, ‘My life would be so much easier if I hadn’t won,'” Park explains. “I have material things but apart from that my life is empty. What is my purpose in life?

Woman didn’t know her cane was a sword until getting to the airport:

An 80-year-old woman could have accidentally caused a panic because she didn’t realize her cane contained a sword until she got to a Myrtle Beach airport. According to TSA spokesperson Mark Howell, this isn’t uncommon. He says people sometimes buy the canes at thrift stores without realizing there’s a sword inside. No charges were filed against the senior citizen.

Police use a taser on a 91-year-old man:

When you think of a person worthy of a taser, you probably imagine a young, fit person with plenty of energy that is on the attack. Police in Punta Gorda, Florida apparently felt they were in danger in the hands of a 91-year-old man. They were called to an assisted living facility where they found Daniel Diaz walking in the common area without assistance and threatening staff. He was not cooperating so an officer decided using his taser would be the best way to get him into custody. It’s unclear if anyone involved in the situation is facing charges.

Men arrested for going through drive-thru on a couch:

Two men in New Brunswick, Canada are facing charges because their idea of a good time after a few drinks was to go through a McDonald’s drive-thru on a couch being towed behind an ATV. Once police lights appeared, the driver of the ATV took off, leaving behind the two drunkards, who were 28 and 39-years-old, by the way. It’s unclear what exactly the men were charged with, but they were wearing helmets at least.

William Penn Opens 2017 with 2-3 Start in Texas

Fort Worth, Texas–The Statesmen softball team did some good things and some not so good things this weekend as it began the 2017 campaign at the Cowtown Classic Fridayand Saturday.

WPU (2-3) opened Friday with a 4-3 win over McPherson, but then fell 3-1 to William Woods. The Statesmen concluded the day with a 4-2 victory against Bellevue. On Saturday, WPU was defeated 7-4 by York and 2-1 by Concordia (Neb.).

The navy and gold pitched well with a 2.12 Earned Run Average, but the inexperienced crew could not overcome some struggles at the plate (.228) and in the field (14 errors).

WPU 4, McPherson 3

Both teams put a run on the board in the first inning, but then William Penn tacked on two more in the third. The Bulldogs answered with one in the bottom of the third and another in the fifth.

Fortunately in the end, the Statesmen, who matched MC with six hits, came away victorious with the go-ahead run in the sixth.

Kacey Lutz (Lodi, Calif., Physical Education) had the big effort with a 3-for-3 debut. Taylor Vernon (Jr., Tracy, Calif., Ripon HS) finished 2-for-3, while Michelle Castro (Acampo, Calif., Business Management) rounded the bases twice in her first collegiate game.

WPU went with a trio of hurlers in the season opener. Dalaney Bice (Fr., Woodward, Iowa, Human Services & Psychology) had the most success, but it was Jenny Navarro(Jr., Bellflower, Calif., Elementary Education) who claimed the win. Bice tossed two scoreless innings (one strikeout, one walk), while Navarro permitted one unearned run in two frames (one strikeout). Brittany Ensley (Fr., Harrisburg, Ore., Exercise Science) started the matchup and went three innings with two Ks and one BB.

William Woods 3, WPU 1

The Statesmen again scored first against the Owls when Castro hit a lead-off double and was then brought around on a single by Emily Brown (Jr., Waverly, Iowa, Biology). Unfortunately, WPU could not come up with any more run support for pitcher Katie Springer (So., Riverside, Iowa, Undecided).

WWU tied the game in the third and went ahead for good in the fourth with a pair of scores. WPU was outhit 11-5 and committed four fielding mistakes.

Kodee Johnson (Sr., Stockton, Calif., General Mathematics) paced the offense with two hits, while Springer struck out four without a walk in six innings of work. Only one of the three runs she allowed was earned.

WPU 4, Bellevue 2

William Penn was on the short end of the hits column at 10-6, but came up with the big ones when needed, leading to two runs in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie.

Esthefany Martinez (Jr., Hacienda Heights, Calif., Business Management) touched home plate twice in the win.

Bice scattered the Bruins’ hits well, working out of a few jams to collect her first win at the college ranks. The freshman managed seven strikeouts (no walks) in a complete game.

York 7, WPU 4

WPU drove in two in the first to match the Panthers’ tally, but failed to keep pace in a game that witnessed the navy and gold being outhit 12-6. Vernon drove in both first-inning runs.

Spring struck out four in a 3 1/3-inning start, while Ensley added another strikeout in 3 2/3 frames of relief.

Concordia (Neb.) 2, WPU 1

Despite making five errors, the Statesmen still had a chance to finish above .500 for the weekend. WPU had two runners on in the seventh, but were unable to produce the tying run.

Both programs recorded eight hits in the game with Castro, Brown, and Johnson all finishing with two base knocks.

Bice concluded a busy weekend with another six innings in the circle. She did not permit an earned run and walked only one Bulldog batter (no strikeouts).

Next Up: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Batesville, Ark. on February 24-25 to face Lyon in a pair of non-conference doubleheaders. Both twinbills start at noon.
