On this day in 1964, The Rolling Stones played their first-ever live date in the United States when they appeared at the Swing Auditorium, San Bernardino, California. The Stones were supporting their first album release The Rolling Stones, in North America.

The album originally was subtitled England’s Newest Hit Makers, but later the album was officially called England’s Newest Hit Makers, instead of being self-titled. The record was released a month and a half after the British version.

The album hit Number 11 US Billboard 200 chart and was Certified Gold by the RIAA. It is the only American album by the Stones that has not placed in the top five on the charts.

Santana and Isley Brothers Collaborate on New Album, Power of Peace

The Isley Brothers have teamed up with Santana for a new album, releasing this summer.

Power of Peace is expected to be released on August 4th and brings together Carlos Santana, his wife (and also his drummer) Cindy Blackman Santana, and Ronald and Ernie Isley. This collaboration comes off the heels of last year’s Santana IV LP, where Ronald Isley sang two songs on the album.

“I feel a deep sense of gratitude, appreciation, and thankfulness,” Santana says in a press release announcing the album. “There is a spirit of creativity that came knocking and presented itself as a golden opportunity to do something with and for a supreme musician, who I consider to be the best in the world. … Like Michael Jackson, John Lennon and Bob Marley, he’s an iconic supreme of the highest order. Cindy and I feel very blessed to offer him this gift.”

“It was an absolute joy working on this album with Carlos,” adds Ronald Isley. “I hope this record carries the spirit of hope, love, and peace to the world that it brought to me, my brother and Carlos.”

During a new interview with Rolling Stone, Ernie Isley also discussed the possibility of the two groups touring together to support the Power of Peace, “What would ‘That Lady’ or ‘Everybody’s Everything’ sound like with me and Carlos playing together?” he said. “Especially in this musical climate. Please. Ronald Isley has never needed AutoTune.”

Craigslist Ad Calls For A “Barbecue Dad”

What says “backyard barbecue” more than a dad grilling meat and talking about Jimmy Buffett? Nothing, according to Dane Anderson and his friends. He and his pals are throwing a barbecue but realized they didn’t have a dad on hand in Spokane, Washington, so they put an ad on Craigslist looking for one.

The ads requires the perfect candidate to grill the meat, bring their own grill, refer to attendee as “Big Guy, Chief, Sport, Champ, etc.” and talk about “dad things” including “lawnmowers, building your own deck, and Jimmy Buffet.” Oh, and bonus points will be awarded to anyone named Bill, Randy or Dave.

The craziest part? Dane says he’s gotten multiple responses. “[One guy’s] name is Jerry but he said we can call him Dave or Bill,” Dane notes. “There was one guy Stan who sent us a message but then he stopped replying.”

Disgruntled Man Unleashes Bed Bugs In City Building

Most of us have experienced the headache of dealing with local government. One man in Augusta, Maine took his frustrations out in a creative, but very disgusting, way. When the unidentified man was told he didn’t qualify for government assistance, he took a cup containing more than 100 bed bugs out of his pocket and slammed it on the counter.

The bugs started spreading and City Hall had to be shut down while pest control came in and got rid of the bugs. City Manager William Bridgeo, who’seworked in various communities since 1976, said he’s “never had anything as yucky as this” happen on his watch.

Police are investigating and it hasn’t been determined if the disgruntled resident will face criminal charges.

Woman Has Broken Her Neck Twice In The Same Place

Monique Jeffrey has bad, bad luck. Back in 2012, the mother of two was laying in her bed when she suddenly sneezed, jolting her neck forward causing the vertebrae in her neck to collapse.

She was able to text her husband for help, who came home and called an ambulance. Jeffrey had to spent nearly four months in a halo brace, which is drilled into the skull while the patient is awake and used to realign the vertebrae. She made a full recovery, or so everyone thought.

Five years later, she was at work laughing with a colleague when it happened again. “I knew exactly what I had done, the pain was really bad and work called an ambulance,” Jeffrey says. “I had a CT scan and an MRI to confirm it was the same two vertebrae.”

Jeffrey’s sister has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover Monique’s medical costs, calling it the “oops I did it again” fund.

ICYMI: Man shoots up heroin while driving:

Doing heroin is always, always a stupid idea. Doing heroin while driving is next level dumb. In case you missed it, Chadwick Smith did just that, admitting to Muncie, Indiana police that he shot up heroin while behind the wheel and nodded off. Smith ended up crashing into a a U-haul trailer before hitting a tree and ending up in a person’s yard. Smith is now facing charges of possession of a narcotic drug, unlawful possession of a syringe, driving while intoxicated and public intoxication.

Man arrested after flashing money on Facebook Live:

Pro-tip: if you’re going to be a criminal, don’t be a flashy one. Breon Hollings found that out the hard way after he flashed wads of money on Facebook Live…and ended up getting picked up on drug charges. The best part? The 22-year-old can be seen on video hearing a warning Jacksonville, Florida officers sent over a loudspeaker they are about to raid the house. Hollings runs out the room, police bust in, and he’s arrested off camera. Hollings is now facing multiple drug charges.

Security camera thief caught on…security camera:

If you’re going to steal security cameras, make sure you steal all of them. Police in Warwick, Rhode Island are looking for the man who walked into the local Wal-Mart and stole three surveillance cameras by hiding them in his jacket. The problem? The store’s actual, working camera caught him in the act.

William Penn 18th in Postseason Poll

Oskaloosa–The Statesmen women’s golf team toppled several higher-ranked teams at last week’s national championship, earning itself a lofty position in the NAIA’s postseason top-25 poll Friday.

WPU, which placed 18th at nationals with a two-day score of 667 (332-335), jumped six rungs to #18. The squad is the only team from the Heart of America Athletic Conference in the poll, while Briar Cliff (unofficially #29) is receiving votes nationally.

National champion Oklahoma City is first in the poll, while Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), South Carolina Beaufort, Dalton State (Ga.), and Keiser (Fla.) round out the top five.

Jump Start Registration Slated for June 24 at William Penn University

(OSKALOOSA, Iowa) – It’s not too late to consider attending William Penn University in the fall, whether you’re a local student or an out-of-town resident. To help ease the process, William Penn University will hold its annual Jump Start Registration in the Musco Technology Center on Saturday, June 24. Incoming students have been invited to attend the event for a chance meet with their academic advisors and to register for classes for the fall semester. Students will also get the chance to meet with representatives from the Office of Admissions, Financial Aid, and the William Penn University Business Office as they prepare for their first year at William Penn.

During Jump Start Registration, students will have the opportunity to view their residence hall room and will be able to visit the bookstore. The university is expecting students to come but to also bring along their families. The event gives families the ability to come to campus on Saturday that may have conflicts during the work week.

If incoming students are unable to attend the event on June 24, individual appointments can be scheduled from Monday through Friday, throughout the summer, so students still have the opportunity to get all the details finalized before the hustle and bustle in August.

June 2nd: On This Day

On this day in 1978, Thin Lizzy released the live double album Live And Dangerous. It was recorded in Philadelphia, London, and Toronto in 1977. The album was released, after the band and their producer, Tony Visconti, couldn’t line up a time to work on a full studio session.

The album has sold over half a million copies and has received critical acclaim as one of the greatest live albums of all time.

This was the last Thin Lizzy album to feature guitarist Brian Robertson.

Jerry Garcia Guitar Sells For $1.9M at Charity Auction

At a charity auction in Brooklyn Wednesday night, a Jerry Garcia guitar sold for $1.9 million. The late Grateful Dead frontman’s guitar, which he named Wolf, was one of Garcia’s signature axes, being played everywhere from San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom to Egypt’s Great Pyramids. The guitar also appeared in the 1977 Grateful Dead movie.

The guitar was auctioned off by then-owner and deadhead Daniel Pritzker. Pritzker is a movie-maker and philanthropist who purchased the guitar in 2002 for $790,000.

The proceeds are for the Montgomery, Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center, which seeks to offer legal support for those dealing with bigotry issues in Alabama.

The Law Center president Richard Cohen thanked Pritzker for being “willing to part with this piece of musical history.”

Unfinished Paint Job Leaves Town With “Sex” Sign

The water tower in Sussex, Wisconsin is undergoing renovations. Unfortunately for them, they ran into a hiccup and had to stop painting midway through the project. Now, the water tower reads “SEX.”

Jessica Bruss was driving her eight-year-old son to his first baseball game Wednesday afternoon when she heard him say “mom, why does that say sex?'” “I immediately thought, ‘not today, we’re not having this conversation today,'” Bruss jokes. “I almost drove off the road when I saw it.”

“It’s not like it’s anything pornographic, but it certainly caught the attention of my eight-year-old,” Bruss adds. “While I think it’s funny for adults, people should remember that kids are seeing it.”

What’s more, this is only one of the sides of the tower and the contractor can’t guarantee that the same thing won’t happen again.

The matte white Himalaya Niloticus crocodile diamond Birkin 30 handbag is now the most expensive handbag ever sold at auction. Whoever the person was that had plenty of expendable income won the bag after 15-minutes of “intense” bidding.

This isn’t the first time a Birkin 30 had a major price tag attached. Last year, Christie’s auctioned a similar bag for $300,000. Why did this one beat the previous record? This time around the purse is encrusted with higher grade diamonds and features more gold.

Soon Doughnuts May Be Delivered By Drones

It’s National Donut Day – so how great to find out that the future might be a bit more delicious than we previously thought. Denver’s LaMar’s Donuts hired Drone Dispatch to deliver four boxes of baked goods to the city’s mayor, along with the fire and police departments.

“This is exciting stuff,” Mayor Michael Hancock says. “I think as we get ready for not only drones in the air, and get ready for autonomous vehicles, this is our future this is how we’re going to become a more efficient 21st century nation, society quite frankly.”

The FAA is investigating to make sure the deliveries are kosher, but Austin-based Drone Dispatch says their work is “completely legal.”

Man puts tape on his face, robs a bank:

Authorities in Brownsburg, Indiana are looking for a thrifty bank robber. A man was caught on security camera robbing a bank with tape wrapped around the middle of his face, effectively hiding only his nose from view. He didn’t say he had a weapon, but told them he was willing to hurt them if he had to. He made off with an undetermined amount of cash. No word on if he used some of that money to buy a better disguise.

Homicide suspect is all smiles after chase:

You’d think if you were wanted for homicide, you wouldn’t be happy about it. Christopher Lamont Carter, however, was all smiles. The 23-year-old led Oklahoma City police on a high-speed chase before crashing into a power pole. When authorities arrested him, Carter really cheesed it up in his mugshot. Maybe he didn’t realize he was now facing charges for both murder and evading police?

Carjacker outsmarted by car keys:

He would have gotten away with it if it wasn’t for that pesky key fob. Ezekiel Stevenson, a prison inmate, yanked a driver from his car during a trip to the hospital. Unfortunately for the 18-year-old, the driver still had his keys, which included a button that turns the engine on and off. What’s more, each time Stevenson tried to lock the doors to avoid police, the driver would use his fob to unlock them. Stevenson was able to flee into the nearby woods, but was eventually caught and thrown back in jail. Now he’s facing carjacking and resisting arrest charges on top of his original hit-and-run charge.

Three Boys Charged with Shooting of 14-Year-Old in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Three teenagers have been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a 14-year-old in Cedar Rapids.

Police said in a news release Thursday that a 16-year-old and two 15-year-olds also have been charged with related crimes. The Associated Press generally doesn’t identify juveniles accused of crimes.

The boy was struck twice on March 11 after several shots were fired at the Coin Kleen Laundromat.

On this day in 1985, Prince & The Revolution started a three-week run at No.1 on the US Billboard 200 album chart with Around The World In A Day. The album was Prince’s seventh studio album, and the second to feature The Revolution.

The record was the second number-one album on the chart for Prince & The Revolution and also went Double Platinum. Two top singles were produced by the album, “Raspberry Beret” and “Pop Life”.
