Boz Scaggs Shares Heartfelt Rendition Of ‘Angel Eyes’

Grammy-winning vocalist and guitarist Boz Scaggs recently released “Angel Eyes,” the second single from his forthcoming album, Detour, due out October 17 on Concord Records.

A hushed and heartfelt rendition of the sentimental standard, “Angel Eyes” showcases Scaggs’ unmatched vocal phrasing and his deep connection to the material — part of a larger collection that revisits the Great American Songbook with warmth, elegance, and emotional depth.

First made famous by artists like Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra, “Angel Eyes” has long stood as one of the most haunting ballads in the popular canon. Scaggs approaches it with reverence and restraint, inhabiting the lyrics rather than performing them, and revealing new hues in his voice shaped by a lifetime of soul, blues, and balladry.

The arrangement — anchored by Seth Asarnow’s understated piano work — is spare, smoky, and intimate, allowing the emotion to linger in the silence between notes.

“I’d never sung this one before Seth brought it to me,” says Scaggs. “It has that bittersweet quality that I love — that quiet ache. We didn’t try to reinvent it, just to live in it a little while.”

Detour began not with a grand plan, but with the simple joy of making music.

“I had no intention of making a record when I started singing these songs,” Scaggs confesses. “It was all very casual at first, just an opportunity to explore a style of music I’ve always liked, to get together with a friend and play for the sheer joy of it.”

What started as a series of personal demos soon revealed something undeniable, resulting in a masterclass in interpretation that honors influences from Frank Sinatra to Irma Thomas. Detour is available to pre-order here.

“Angel Eyes” follows the album’s lead single, a stunning new arrangement of Boz’s 1969 classic, “I’ll Be Long Gone.”

Detour Tracklist:

1. It’s Raining

Bono and The Edge are set to accept the 2025 Woody Guthrie Prize on behalf of U2 on October 21 in Tulsa at Cain’s Ballroom.

The Woody Guthrie Center Senior Director Cady Shaw will deliver remarks at the fundraising evening. Woody Guthrie’s granddaughter Anna Canoni will share her family’s appreciation of U2 as the standard bearers of Woody’s legacy.

The announcement from the Woody Guthrie Center notes that the award “recognizes a recipient who embodies the spirit of Woody Guthrie’s social consciousness and musical legacy. In their art and in their actions, U2 band members Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. continue a tradition of using music as a force for social change, echoing Guthrie’s belief that songs can help make the world a fairer place.”

“U2 embodies the mission of the Woody Guthrie Prize, using music to confront injustice and inspire action,’ said Shaw. “By presenting the 2025 Woody Guthrie Prize to U2, we honor a legacy of music that continues to challenge who we are and connect us the world over.”

Ozzy Osbourne Documentary To Premiere On Paramount+ On October 7

A new Ozzy Osbourne documentary, Ozzy: No Escape From Now is set to premiere on Paramount+ on October 7 in the U.S. and internationally (excluding Japan).

BAFTA Award-winner Tania Alexander directed the two-hour movie, produced by the Osbourne family – Ozzy, his wife Sharon, and their children Aimee, Jack and Kelly.

In a new two-minute trailer for the documentary, Ozzy is seen saying, “The thing about getting older, you know, I used to take pills for fun. Now I take them just to stay alive.”

“He was in hospital for weeks. To fall like that and not be able to bounce back like he had in the past, and then having to cancel the tour – that was his biggest heartbreak,” Aimee says about her dad’s fall.

The film details the series of corrective surgeries Ozzy endured following the accident, the health issues he suffered after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease as well as the mental and physical impact of the chronic pain on the music he made in the years after.

No Escape From Now also documents Osbourne’s decision to play a final farewell show in his hometown of Birmingham on July 5, just weeks before he died on July 22 at the age of 76.

Depeche Mode Release Trailer For New Concert Film

Depeche Mode recently released the official trailer for their new concert film, Depeche Mode: M.

Depeche Mode: M is a cinematic journey into the heart of Mexican culture’s relationship with death, framed by the iconic performances of Depeche Mode during their 2023 Memento Mori tour.

Conceived and directed by award-winning Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frías, the film captures the band’s three sold-out shows in Mexico City, attended by over 200,000 fans, blending concert footage with interpretive interstitials and archival material.

The film is scheduled for a limited theatrical release in cinemas and IMAX globally on October 28.

Depeche Mode: M was already previously at the Tribeca Festival in New York City in June.
