Born on this day in 1944 – John Densmore, drummer with The Doors, who had the 1967 US No.1 & UK No.49 single ‘Light My Fire’ & the 1971 single ‘Riders On The Storm’. They were among the most influential and controversial rock acts of the 1960s, primarily due to singer Jim Morrison’s lyrics and voice, along with his erratic stage persona and legal issues. Densmore more recently allowed ‘Riders on the Storm’ to be used to sell Pirelli Tyres, in the UK only and later stated that he “heard Jim’s voice” in his ears and ended up donating the money earned to charity. In 2002, Densmore vetoed an offer by Cadillac for $15 million for ‘Break on Through (To the Other Side)’ because of Morrison’s vehement opposition to licensing the Doors’ music for commercial use.

David Coverdale Bids Farewell With Video For Whitesnake’s ‘Forevermore’
Whitesnake singer David Coverdale, who recently announced his retirement from music, is seen bidding farewell in an emotional music video released by the group.
The video, produced by Coverdale, for a remix of “Forevermore,” the title track from Whitesnake’s 2011 album, features an orchestral arrangement from the Hook City Strings.
The Payton Murphy-directed visual takes viewers on a trip to yesteryears, with clips showing Coverdale with his flowing blonde hair, singing the tune’s nostalgic lyrics amid shots of his family and wife Cindy Barker.
“Looking back across the years/ The good times and the bad/ All echo in my mind,” Coverdale sings from a room festooned with candles and draped in white curtains, lamenting the mix of “sweet and bitter memories” he’s left behind.
“For you will be my life/ And I will feel your heart beat forevermore,” he croons, pounding his fist over his heart.
In an Instagram video he shared earlier this month, Coverdale revealed his plans, saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, brothers and sisters of the Snake, a special announcement for you. After 15 years plus… the last few years have been very evident to me that it’s time really for me to hang up my rock and roll platform shoes and my skin-tight jeans.”
“And as you can see, we’ve taken care of the lion’s wig. But it’s time for me to call it a day,” he continued. “I love you dearly. I thank everyone who’s assisted and supported me on this incredible journey. All the musicians, the crew, the fans, the family. It’s amazing.”
