The Doobie Brothers To Reunite With Michael McDonald On New Album

The Doobie Brothers are reuniting with Michael McDonald for their first album together in more than four decades.

Founding member of the rock band Pat Simmons broke the news in a Facebook post.

“We are very close to finishing up an album’s worth of new songs,” Simmons revealed. “We’re lucky once again to have John Shanks producing and Michael McDonald joining in with us on this one! Tom [Johnston], Michael, John and myself have composed a great bunch of songs that we’re really proud of and John McFee is really a stand out on the tracks.”

He added, “It’s the first time in 40 years that Michael has recorded a whole album with the band and in my humble opinion it’s turning out to be some of the best music we’ve ever made together!”

Simmons said the band hopes to debut some of the songs from the upcoming album during their nationwide tour, beginning in June.

“There’s some really high energy stuff that will be fun for us to play and hopefully work well with our better known tunes,” he said.  “We’ll keep you posted and let you know how that’s workin’ out.”

Simmons said besides him, Tom Johnston, McDonald as well as guitarist John McFee have actively participated in the recording of the new album.

Produced by John Shanks, the untitled album will be The Doobie Brothers’ first project with McDonald since One Step Closer, released in 1980.

Paul McCartney Photography Exhibit To Open At Portland Art Museum

The Portland Art Museum has announced a Paul McCartney photography exhibit opening later this.

Paul McCartney Photographs 1963-64: Eyes of the Storm is an exhibition revealing extraordinary photographs taken by McCartney at the height of Beatlemania.

Organized by the National Portrait Gallery in London, the exhibition will open at the Portland Art Museum on September 14, 2024, and run through January 19, 2025.

The exhibit will include more than 250 recently rediscovered photographs from McCartney’s personal archive, video clips and archival material. At a time when so many camera lenses were turned toward them, McCartney’s perspective from the inside out brings fresh insight into the band, their experiences, the fans, and the Beatlemania phenomenon.

Captured by McCartney during a pivotal three-month period for The Beatles in late 1963 and early 1964, the photographs evoke an affectionate family album, picturing his fellow band members John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.

“Looking at these photos now, decades after they were taken, I find there’s a sort of innocence about them,” said McCartney. “Everything was new to us at this point. But I like to think I wouldn’t take them any differently today. They now bring back so many stories, a flood of special memories, which is one of the many reasons I love them all, and know that they will always fire my imagination.”

Paul McCartney Photographs 1963-64: Eyes of the Storm is curated by McCartney with Sarah Brown.
