On this day in 1982 – Randy Rhoads Does in Plane Crash

On this day in 1982 – Ozzy Osbourne guitarist and former Quiet Riot member Randy Rhoads was killed when the plane he was riding in crashed. After driving much of the night, the band had stopped near a small airstrip. The tour bus driver, Andrew Aycock, talked the band’s keyboardist, Don Airey, into taking a test flight in a ’55 Beechcraft Bonanza, the joyride ended, and the plane landed safely. Then Aycock took Rhoads and Rachel Youngblood on another flight and attempts were made to ‘buzz’ the tour bus. The left wing clipped the bus, which sent the plane spiralling into a nearby house and bursting into flames. All three bodies were burned beyond recognition, and were identified by dental records.

Billy Joel’s Daughter Says He’s ‘Doing Great’ Amid Battle With Brain Disorder

Billy Joel’s daughter has revealed that the music legend is “doing great” amid his battle with a brain disorder.

Joel is battling the rare brain disorder normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH).

“He’s doing physical therapy regularly and he’s doing great,” Joel’s daughter Alexa Ray told the Hollywood Reporter during an interview. “He’s lost weight as he’s on his diet.”

Joel’s condition, which impacts his balance, vision and hearing, forced the cancellation of his planned 2025 tour dates.

She continued, “I’m so proud of him. He’s such a trooper, so resilient and committed to being healthy and proactive. He’s a fighter. He’s always been a fighter and talks in his documentary about how life’s like a fight.”

Alexa Ray gave the update on her dad’s condition on the eve of Thursday night’s, March 12, tribute fundraiser, “The Music of Billy Joel” which took place at Carnegie Hall and featured Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas, Matt Nathanson, Train’s Pat Monahan, Sammy Rae, Rufus Wainwright, O.A.R.’s Mark Roberge, Jon McLaughlin, Wyclef Jean and others playing the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s songs.
