Aerosmith To Release Limited Edition ‘Get Your Wings’ Vinyl For 50th Anniversary

Aerosmith have announced they will release a limited edition of their second album, Get Your Wings on vinyl via UMe/Capitol on May 17, in celebration of the record’s 50th anniversary.

The limited edition, limited to numbers 1-1974 to honor the year of the album’s release, is pressed on 180g custom color “gold sparkle” vinyl. It will be housed in an embossed gold foil jacket, the band announced.

Each copy is uniquely numbered with gold foil and encased in black poly-lined sleeves. Buyers will also receive a 70’s-era Aerosmith logo sticker and a replica of a vintage ad.

Alongside the vinyl record, an expansive Get Your Wings merchandise and apparel collection will also be available for purchase.

Get Your Wings, which is RIAA Triple Platinum-certified, marked Aerosmith’s first collaboration with producer Jack Douglas, who produced the band’s next three albums as well.

Born on this day in 1946 – Ronnie Lane

Born on this day in 1946 – Ronnie Lane, bass player and vocalist with Small Faces who had a 1967 UK No.3 & US No.16 single with ‘Itchycoo Park’ and a 1968 UK No.1 album with ‘Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake’. As Faces they had a 1972 UK No.6 & US No.17 single with ‘Stay With Me’. Ronnie then formed Slim Chance, who had a 1974 UK No.5 single with ‘How Come’. He died on June 4th 1997, aged 51, after a 20 year battle with multiple sclerosis.

Longtime Styx Bassist Ricky Phillips Announces Departure From The Band

Longtime Styx bassist Ricky Phillips has announced that he is leaving the band after being a part of it for more than 20 years.

“Dear Friends, after touring for 50 years with The Babys, Bad English, opening for Tina Turner (on the Private Dancer tour with John Parr), Belinda Carlisle’s first solo tour, rehearsing in Tahoe and recording at Little Mountain in Canada with Jimmy Page and David Coverdale and writing, touring, and co-producing 10/10 with Ronnie Montrose, to name a chosen few… I’m taking a breather,” Phillips said in a statement,

Phillips made it clear that he is not retiring but just “taking a break from the road.” He said he has a commitment to co-produce a project in a studio close to his home.

“I’ve known since I was a kid that live performance is in my blood so, in time I will post any future engagements or commitments,” he said. “But for right now, Melissa and I will share coffee talk and meals from home…with our critters close by.”

Styx released a statement bidding Phillips farewell. “It was a joy to spend two decades with Ricky Phillips in Styx and we wish him all the best in his next adventure,” the band said via social media. “He’ll always be a part of the Styx family and we’ll miss his presence on our stage and in our touring lives.”

Genesis’ ‘Turn It On Again: The Hits’ To Be Released On Vinyl For The First Time

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its original release in October 1999, Genesis’ multi-platinum-selling Turn It On Again: The Hits will be released on vinyl for the first time.

On May 3, the album will be released as a 2-LP set on black vinyl, a special edition 2-LP set in “Invisible Touch” clear vinyl available exclusively through Rhino, as well as on CD.

The album contains 18 tracks that span the band’s whole career. From their earliest period with tracks such as “I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)” and a version of “The Carpet Crawlers” on to their early 80’s global smash hits such as “Turn It On Again” and “Mama” and their massive hits later that decade and into the early 90s with “Invisible Touch” and “I Can’t Dance.”

The album’s artwork features the lettering of Genesis pulled from various album covers of the band and the infamous “I Can’t Dance” silhouette of Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford taken from the song’s video.

On this day in 1967 – The Beatles Work On Recording ‘Good Morning Good Morning’,

On this day in 1967 – Working on sessions for the new Beatles album Sgt. Pepper at Abbey Road studios in London, John Lennon recorded his lead vocal for ‘Good Morning Good Morning’, and Paul McCartney added a lead guitar solo to the track. Lennon had decided he wanted to end the song with animal sound effects, and asked that they be sequenced in such a way that each successive animal was capable of scaring or eating the preceding one.

The Another Fork in The Road Tour celebrates 50 years of the progressive rock band’s illustrious music history with concerts featuring two full hours of memorable hits, fan favorites and deep cuts rarely performed live.

The tour has been hallmarked by energetic and spellbinding performances at some of the foremost theaters and performing arts centers across the United States and into Canada.

Most newly announced concert dates go on sale on March 22 at 10 AM local venue time.

“This tour has already been incredibly special for the band. The 50th Anniversary Tour started in 2023 which commemorates KANSAS’s first year as a band. It is continuing in 2024 which commemorates the release of the first KANSAS album,” says Kansas guitarist and original member Richard Williams. “There are so many places in the U.S. where we haven’t been able to play yet, Topeka and Wichita just to name two, we knew we would have to add a third and final leg to the tour.”

He added, “After such a successful and sold-out premiere of the tour in Pittsburgh, PA, we wanted to put an exclamation point on the tour by having the closing 50th Anniversary Tour concert take place back there at the Benedum Center.”

New David Bowie Box Set ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star!’ To Arrive In June

Parlophone Records has announced that a new 5CD and 1 Blu-Ray audio David Bowie box set will be released on June 14.

David Bowie – Rock ‘N’ Roll Star! explores Bowie’s journey from February 1971 through the creation of the Ziggy Stardust character, the recording of the iconic The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars album, and captures U.K. radio sessions and TV performances, as well as live tracks from Ziggy and the Spiders’ October 1972 show at the Boston Music Hall.

Rock ‘N’ Roll Star!, containing 29 unreleased tracks, covers early songwriting demos, recordings from David’s studio creation, The Arnold Corns, rehearsals at Bowie’s then-home, Haddon Hall, BBC sessions, singles, live performances, plus outtakes and alternative versions from the original album recording sessions, which have been newly mixed by original album producer, Ken Scott.

Unreleased highlights include an alternative version of “Lady Stardust,” a version of the deep-cut classic “Shadow Man” and an up-tempo take of The Who’s “I Can’t Explain.”

The box set also contains two books. The first is an extensive 112-page book with detailed liner notes, memorabilia, contemporary reviews and articles, rare photographs from Barrie Wentzel, Michael Putland, Mick Rock, Sukita and Alec Byrne, as well as brand-new notes and interviews with Ken Scott, Mark Carr Pritchett and David’s plugger from the time, Anya Wilson. Accompanying the main book is a 36-page compiled reproduction of David’s personal Ziggy Stardust era notebooks.
