1962– The Beatles record their first radio appearance at the Playhouse Theatre in Hulme, Manchester, for the BBC radio program Teenager’s Turn – Here We Go’.

1966– Mike Millward dies at the age of 23. He was the guitarist from The Fourmost.

1969– Led Zeppelin appears at the Bluesville 69 Club at the Hornsey Wood Tavern in London, England.

1970– Simon and Garfunkels album Bridge Over Troubled Water starts a ten week run at No.1 on the US chart. The duo was no longer together by the time of release.

1975– David Bowie releases his ninth studio album Young Americans.

1976– Elton John is immortalised in wax at Madame Tussauds in London.

1987– The Beastie Boys become the first rap act to have a No.1 album in the US with their debut album, Licensed To Ill.

1988– British pedal steel guitar player Gordon Huntley dies of cancer and Madonna rockets to No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘Frozen’.

2012– Sales of albums by The Monkees soar following the death of singer Davy Jones.
