OSKALOOSA — The Statesmen men’s soccer team walked off the field with a draw as 90 minutes of action failed to net a goal in a 0-0 non-conference tie against Rocky Mountain (Mont.) Sunday.

Two days after scoring seven times in its season opener, No. 7 William Penn (1-0-1) was denied at every turn in its matchup with the Battlin’ Bears (1-0-1), a squad receiving votes in the NAIA’s preseason poll and coming off a national tournament appearance.

The navy and gold posted a 13-10 edge in shots, led by three from Jarred Hendricks (Sr., Cape Town, South Africa) and Javier Perez (So., Alicante, Spain, Business Management).

RMC had the best scoring opportunity Sunday when it earned a penalty kick in the 13th minute.  Sil Milder (Arnhem, Netherlands) fortunately chose the right direction for his dive and stopped the attempt.  Milder finished with four saves in the draw.

WPU put six shots on goal, compared to just four for the visitors, but neither side could break through.

“We witnessed a very good first 30 minutes from our guys,” Assistant Coach Milton Magana said.  “We won first and second balls, played our game, and rotated well.  However, we have to capitalize on our opportunities.”

“This was a good result against a well-drilled and tough team, but we are disappointed that we were unable to find the win,” Magana added.  “We have a lot of room for growth and improvement.”
