Oskaloosa–Jeysen Delgado (Jr., Harbor City, Calif., Kinesiology) got around the bases a lot last weekend and for his efforts he was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week Monday.
Delgado picked up his second weekly award by dominating Peru State pitching during the four-game set. He hit .667 (10-for-15) with three doubles and four home runs. The junior, who also walked twice and stole two bases, tallied seven RBIs and 11 runs scored.
He managed at least three hits on three occasions and highlighted his week by going 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double, a walk, a stolen base, four RBIs, and four runs in Saturday’s opener.
For the year, Delgado is hitting .409 (54-for-132) with 10 doubles, two triples, and six home runs (.652 slugging percentage). He has scored 48 times and has driven in 25 RBIs. The junior has drawn 26 walks and has been hit-by-pitch 13 times for a .541 on-base clip. He has also stolen 23 bases out of 24 attempts.
Delgado currently owns a four-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 18 of his last 20 games. Incredibly, of the 41 games in which he has played this spring, Delgado has reached base in some manner in all but one.
The award is the third of the year for the program.
