On this day in 1965, The Temptations hit #1 on the US singles chart with “My Girl”. The single was also the first number-one hit on the reinstated Billboard R&B Singles chart, which had gone on a fifteen-month hiatus from 1963 to 1965.
The song was penned by Smokey Robinson and made the group the first male act to have a #1 for Motown. The song would also make The Temptations the first Motown act to receive a Grammy.
