The season is over for the Oskaloosa High baseball team. Solon beat the Indians 3-2 Monday night (7/22) in the Class 3A District 12 title game in Oskaloosa. The Indians struck quickly with two first inning runs, but Solon tied the game in the fourth with a pair of their own. Then the Spartans took the lead in the sixth on Ryan Geistkemper’s RBI double…and held it for the win. Oskaloosa Coach Bill Almond said his team left five runners on base in the first three innings and that made a big difference.
“Empty outs there, you don’t score…it comes back to bite you. That’s totally on us. We’ve been fighting that for the last week and a half or so….having a lot of empty outs.”
Noah Van Veldhuizen had two hits for Oskaloosa. Colton Butler took the loss. Oskaloosa ends the year with a 22-11 record. Solon will advance to play Marion for the Substate 6 title and a trip to the state baseball tournament Wednesday night (7/24).
