The Iowa State High School track meet begins its three day run Thursday (5/16) in Des Moines. Thursday’s schedule for both boys and girls includes the shot put, discus, long jump, high jump, preliminary runs for the shuttle hurdles, 200 meters and 100 meters, and finals in the 3200, 400, and 4 by 800 relay. Oskaloosa freshman Faith DeRonde will compete today in the shot and discus, and later in the sprint medley relay. How has she been able to do this in her first year on varsity?
“I love to compete and I’m really competitive. And everybody’s been really good about pushing me this season and I finally reached my end of the season goal.” I would love to place at least top three at State for discus, I’d love to move up for shot. In sprint medley, I’d just want to see a PR.”
PR is track speak for personal record. Oskaloosa’s Sophia Dykstra will also compete in the discus. She had the third best throw in state qualifying at 129 feet.
