Several area athletes have qualified for this week’s State Co-Ed Track Meet.
In Class 3A boys, Oskaloosa’s Carter Huyser qualified for state in the 800 meters and as part of the Indians’ 4 by 400 and sprint medley relay teams. Oskaloosa’s Reed Brown also qualified in the 400 hurdles and Casey Hill in the discus.
Qualifiers from Pella: Tony Schmitz & Drew VanHauen in the 800, Josiah Wittenberg in the 1600 and 3200, Jordan Buma in the 110 hurdles and 400 hurdles, Nick DeJong in the discus and shot (DeJong was the top qualifier in the shot with a throw of 59′ 11 3/4″), Kody Huisman in the discus, Mason Huerter in the shot, and the Dutch 4 x 200, 4 x 400, 4 x 800, distance medley, sprint medley and 110 shuttle hurdles relay teams.
Qualifiers from Grinnell: Joe Simon in the 800, Matthew Cunningham in the 1600, and the Tigers’ 4 x 400, 4 x 800 and distance medley relay teams.
Qualifiers from Knoxville: Kieren Nichols in the 400 and Alex Buckley in the shot.
In Class 3A girls, Oskaloosa’s Emma Kelderman was the fastest qualifier in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:03.73. She also qualified in the high jump and as part of the Indians’ 4 by 400 relay and distance medley relay teams that qualified for State. The Indians’ girls’ sprint medley relay team also qualified, as did Sophia Dykstra in the discus, while Faith DeRonde qualified in the discus and shot put.
Qualifiers from Pella: Emily McMartin & Evie Armstrong in the 100, Metsje Miller and Calla Kerndt in the 200, Caroline McMartin in the 800 and 3000 meters, Tirzah Wittenberg in the 800, Makayla Kruse in the 3000, Emily Holterhaus in the 100 hurdles & 400 hurdles, Elsie Thoreson in the 400 hurdles, Isabel Treimer in the long jump, Elly Cairney in the discus, Sara Bennett in the shot, and the Lady Dutch 4 x 100, 4 x 200, 4 x 400, 4 x 800, sprint medley and distance medley relay teams.
Qualifiers from Knoxville: Abbey Jackson in the 100, 200 & 400, Katie Keitges in the 800 & 1500.
Qualifiers from Grinnell: Addy Petig in the 200, Anjali Jones in the 1500 & 3000, Kylee Neighbors in the 100 hurdles & high jump, and the Tigers’ 4 x 200, 4 x 400 and sprint medley relay teams.
Qualifiers from Newton: Rachel Rhoads in the 1500, MacKenzie Baker in the shot, and the Cardinals’ distance medley relay team.
