William Penn’s men’s soccer team continued its winning run last night (10/24) with a 3-1 victory at Culver-Stockton. Freshman Kenedy Deviska scored a hat trick in the game’s first 18 minutes to propel the Statesmen to their eighth conference win against two losses. It’s possible the Statesmen could win the Heart of America Conference regular season championship. They would need to beat Baker Saturday at home, plus Central Methodist would have to lose their game Saturday.
The Statesmen women’s soccer team also won yesterday at Culver-Stockton. They needed double overtime to get a one-nothing victory. Freshman Tori Teanio headed in the winning goal from a corner kick 1:18 into the second OT. William Penn’s women are now 2-8 in the Heart of America Conference. They need a win against Baker Saturday at home plus a loss by either Evangel or Culver-Stockton to get into next week’s conference tournament.
Three William Penn wrestlers showed up in the Heart of America Conference preseason rankings. Junior Sheldon Rodriguez is ranked fifth at 197 pounds. Sophomore Nadhelo Charles-Pierre is sixth at 125 pounds and junior Dennis Simmons is sixth at 157 pounds. The Statesmen wrestlers have their first meet of the season November 10 at the Grand View Open in Pleasant Hill.
