Oskaloosa–William Penn University Athletics Director Nik Rule is proud to announce that Sean Gosewisch has been promoted to Head Cross Country Coach.
Gosewisch, who is also in his fifth year as Assistant Track and Field Coach, served as the program’s assistant coach the last four years. He also served as a graduate assistant coach from 2011-2012. As Gosewisch takes over the reins, Head Track and Field Coach Allen Friesen will now be his assistant.
“Coach Gosewisch has put a lot of time into the cross country program here and has shown he has the energy and passion to lead it,” Rule said. “We are excited to see how he grows as a coach and how he is able to grow the program.”
Since joining the cross country staff, he has guided 13 individuals to all-conference laurels and one runner (Jamal Boma) to an All-America honor (the first in school history). Six runners have qualified for nationals.
“I believe it is time for this move to be made,” Friesen said. “It is a good move for the cross country team and no one deserves it more than Coach Gosewisch. I cannot be more pleased to see him get this opportunity.”
Gosewisch is a 2010 graduate of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville with a degree in history. A national qualifier at the NCAA Division I and II levels, he was a captain of both the cross country and track and field squads as a senior.
