The Oskaloosa baseball team ended last week the wrong way, losing two games to conference foe Pella Christian. They bounced back nicely on Monday night, however, as they defeated Washington on the road, 10-2.
The action started quickly for the Indians, as they would plate two runs in the second inning on three hits in a two-out rally. Washington would scratch across a run in the bottom of the second, but Osky was far from building their lead.
The offense was clicking, rapping out nine hits, drawing seven walks, and getting hit by a pitch. The Indians also took advantage of three Washington errors and took several extra bases on wild pitches and passed balls. There was not a 1-2-3 inning against Osky, and they would add a run in the third and fourth and three runs in the fifth and seventh innings to lead 10-1. Washington would push one more across in the bottom of the seventh to get the final score to 10-2.
Charlie Bandstra led Osky going 3 for 4 at the plate with three runs scored. Alex DeJong went 2 for 4 and had three RBI. Seth Sarver picked up the win on the mound after four strong innings. Nick Harrington and Peyton Crouse both pitched well in relief.
Oskaloosa is now 21-12 on the season and will the July 4th holiday off before hosting Carlisle in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday night. The first varsity game is schedule to begin at 5:30 PM at the Oskaloosa High School Baseball Field.
