The Oskaloosa Boys’ Golf team has gotten their season off to a good start, defeating Newton and Norwalk Monday afternoon at Edmundson Golf Course.
The Indians held off their two conference opponents in a tightly contested varsity matchup, shooting a 170. Newton was second at 173, and Norwalk finished with a 176.
Oskaloosa sophomore Spencer Tucker was the medalist, shooting a 37. Bennett Spry was second in the tourney with a 40. Ethan Farner shot 46, Nick Den Hartog and Spencer Nelson each shot a 47, and Austin Hafner shot a 49.
“I was very happy to get the 2 conference wins tonight,” said Head Coach Bret Foster. “It’s a good start to the season, but we also have a lot of improvements to make if we want to get to where we want to go.”
The Oskaloosa JV was also in action, tying with Norwalk at 189. Norwalk won the tiebreaker on the 5th JV score. Newton shot a 213.
Oskaloosa’s Hogan Rockhold tied for first with a 43 with Norwalk golfer Joe Vivone.
Oskaloosa will be back in action Tuesday, taking on Des Moines Christian at Jester Park Golf Course just outside Des Moines.
