Ottumwa Symphony’s Spring concert

$14.00 – $30.00Billed as a “Hootenanny,” the final subscription concert of the Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra will take place on Saturday, May 16, 7:30 p.m. at Bridge View Center. The jam-packed program will feature a variety of repertoire from Bach to Bill Monroe.
Pianist Megan Miller, winner of the Young Artist Competition, will perform the first movement of Mozart’s Concerto #23 with the Orchestra followed by Michal Brauhn’s performance on marimba of the third movement of Bach’s Concerto in G Minor.
Guest soloist will be fiddler/violinist Andy Carlson who will perform “Summer” from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons as well as his own composition, “Suite for Fiddle and Orchestra.”
Also appearing on the program will be Ottumwa’s own Bluegrass Blondies, a family string quintet. An additional treat will be the appearance of fiddlers of all ages from the surrounding area as they strike up tunes such as “Gold Rush,” “Big Sandy River” and “Billy in the Lowground.”
The Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra will round out the program with performances of ”Lullaby” by William Hofeldt and the string rendition of Aaron Copland’s “Hoedown.”
Prior to the concert the Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra Guild will host “Dinner on the Plaza.” The menu will include: brisket or portabella mushroom/quinoa, Yukon mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, rolls, dessert and a drink. Persons can make reservations by calling (641) 777-7788 by 4 p.m. on May 7. The dinner is $30 per person.
Admission to the concert is by season ticket or adult single tickets at the door for $14 each. Students, including Indian Hills students, are admitted free.
