Peter Gabriel Shares Latest ‘o\i’ Single ‘A Hard Lesson’

Peter Gabriel recently shared a new single, “A Hard Lesson” from his forthcoming album o\i.

“A Hard Lesson” is written by Gabriel and produced by Gabriel and Mike Elizondo. The first mix to be released is the Bright-Side Mix by Mark “Spike” Stent.

“This is the oldest track of the project. It probably started in the late 80s or early 90s when I was in Senegal. I was falling in love with the music I heard there. I loved the tension created by the use of polyrhythms, particularly the threes and fours, so that was the start of this song,” Gabriel said.

“It’s a quirky, strange and long track but it’s a journey. It’s about trying to find a place, your place, how you fit in. I’ve enjoyed playing with old R&B and folk references as well,” he added.

i/o was Gabriel’s last album, released in 2023 song by song with each full moon cycle. o\i is being released the same way.

Roger Daltrey Calls The Who ‘The First Heavy Metal Band’

Roger Daltrey has asserted that The Who were “the first heavy metal band,” claiming that the group helped pave the way for the genre in the 1960s.

The rock icon made the comments during a new interview with Rolling Stone, saying that the band demonstrated multiple sounds, live performance tricks and more that would go on to be synonymous with heavy metal.

“We were just different than everybody else,” the singer told Rolling Stone. “Americans don’t really know the Who from the early ’60s, but as the drummer of Deep Purple [Ian Paice] said recently in a magazine, ‘The Who started it all.’ We were the first heavy metal band.”

He continued, “Jim Marshall invented the 4×12 [speaker cabinet], 100-watt stack for [Who guitarist] Pete Townshend. All the guitar smashing that Jimi Hendrix became famous for, in his style, was basically copied from Pete Townshend, first of all. We were doing it before anyone, but it’s not important in the long run.”

The English rock band was formed in London in 1964. Their classic lineup (1964-1978) consisted of lead vocalist Daltrey, guitarist Pete Townshend, bassist John Entwistle, and drummer Keith Moon. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

Paul McCartney Releases New Album ‘The Boys Of Dungeon Lane’

Beatles legend Paul McCartney recently released his new studio album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, via MPL/Capitol Records.

The Boys of Dungeon Lane is not only the first new solo album from McCartney in over five years; it is a revealing collection of never-before shared stories, personal memories, and some newly inspired love songs from The Beatle.

Turning the lens inward, Paul revisits the formative years that shaped both his life, and the very foundations of modern popular culture. The album is arguably his most personal and introspective, untold stories that transport the listener back to where it all began.

The new songs find Paul in a candid, vulnerable and reflective mood, writing with rare openness about his childhood in post-war Liverpool, the resilience of his parents, and early adventures with George Harrison and John Lennon long before the world had ever heard of Beatlemania. The Boys of Dungeon Lane is the story before THE story.

Since the new album was announced, The Boys of Dungeon Lane has been surrounded by excitement from fans and media all over the world.

Paul McCartney Hopes To Release Prince Cover Of The Beatles’ ‘Long And Winding Road’

In a recent interview with BBC Radio 2’s “Tracks of My Years” program, Paul McCartney said he hopes to release Prince’s cover of The Beatles’ “Long and Winding Road.”

“I was with some guy a couple of years ago, so it was after Prince had died,” McCartney recalled. “And this guy said, ‘Have you heard Prince do ‘Long and Winding Road?’ I said, ‘Well, no. That’s one of my songs.’ I said, ‘I don’t think he ever did it.’ He said, ‘Well, he did. He did it in rehearsal. He was rehearsing it for something.'”

McCartney added that the person, who was presumably Prince’s photographer, sent the cover version to him. “It’s really great,” he said. “And so I’m going to sort of ask [the estate] … because I could make it into something really good… It’s kind of rocky. He plays some really good guitar on it. He was a special guy.”

The recording sent by Prince’s photographer seemingly came from one of the several shows the song was performed by the late icon during his 2007 Las Vegas residency.
