On this day in 1976 – Chicago started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘If You Leave Me Now’. It was the group’s 18th Top 40 and first US No.1, also a No.1 in the UK. It went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance.

Born on this day in 1945 – American guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Leslie West. He was the co-founder, guitarist and co-lead vocalist of the rock band Mountain, who had the 1970 US No.21 single ‘Mississippi Queen’, (In 2005, he contributed to Ozzy Osbourne’s Under Cover album, performing guitar on a remake of ‘Mississippi Queen’. He was later a member of West Bruce & Laing. In 2011, due to complications from diabetes, West’s right leg had to be amputated. He died on 22 Dec 2020 age 75, after suffering a heart attack in his home near Daytona, Florida.
Rhino’s Quadio Reissues Albums By America, Hot Tuna, WAR & Jefferson Starship
Rhino’s Quadio has reissued four albums by America, Hot Tuna, WAR and Jefferson Starship.
The reissues include America’s Hearts (1975), Hot Tuna’s America’s Choice (1975), WAR’s Why Can’t We Be Friends? (1975) – a previously unreleased quadraphonic mix – and Jefferson Starship’s Spitfire (1976).
Each disc pairs the original quadraphonic mix with a hi-res 192 kHz/24-bit stereo transfer, both sourced from the original analog four-track quad master tapes.
Available exclusively through Rhino.com and select Warner Music Group stores worldwide, each title lists for $24.98, or $79.98 as a four-disc bundle.
Hearts was America’s second album with producer George Martin, continuing a successful partnership that spanned six studio releases. It featured two of the band’s biggest hits, the No. 1 single “Sister Golden Hair” and “Daisy Jane.” The album reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and went Platinum.
America’s Choice was Hot Tuna’s fifth album, recorded in 1974 and released in 1975. The album is the first of the Rampage trilogy albums recorded by the now power trio.
WAR’s Why Can’t We Be Friends? reached the Billboard Top 10. The Gold-certified album produced two Top 10 singles: “Low Rider” and the title track.
Spitfire was Jefferson Starship’s third consecutive Platinum album, peaking at No. 3.

Neil Young’s ‘Tonight’s The Night’ To Be Reissued For 50th Anniversary
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Tonight’s The Night, Neil Young is reissuing his 1975 album, expanded with six additional songs.
The versions of “Walk On” and “Tonight’s The Night [take 3]” have never been released. “Everybody’s Alone,” “Raised On Robbery” featuring Joni Mitchell and “Speakin’ Out Jam” were included on Neil Young Archives Vol. II, while the version of “Wonderin” has only been available to stream on NYA. None of the bonus tracks have been previously released on vinyl.
Tonight’s The Night 50th Anniversary Deluxe limited edition will be released on vinyl, CD and digitally on November 28 via Warner/Reprise Records. A clear vinyl format is available at Greedy Hand and indie stores. The original artwork has been creatively reimagined for this limited edition release.
In 1975, Young released Tonight’s The Night, an album that is widely regarded as one of the masterpieces in his catalog. The album was recorded in 1973, following the major success of his album Harvest, but it was not released for two more years. The album is dedicated to two of Neil’s close friends, Danny Whitten and Bruce Berry, who both died in the year before this album was recorded.
Recorded on analog tape, Tonight’s The Night includes some of Young’s most brilliant and emotionally moving songs. In addition to the two versions of the title track, the album features “Borrowed Tune,” “World on a String,” “Mellow My Mind,” “Tired Eyes,” “Come On Baby Let’s Go Downtown,” “Albuquerque” and “Roll Another Number (For The Road).”
For the 50th anniversary edition of this album, Young has replaced “Lookout Joe” with an unreleased version, also from the original album sessions at SIR studios in 1973.

Born on this day in 1957 – American guitarist, singer, songwriter, arranger and record producer Steve Lukather, who with Toto had the 1983 US No.1 & UK No.3 single ‘Africa’. Lukather has recorded guitar tracks for more than 1,500 albums including the guitar solo for Olivia Newton-John’s 1981 No.1 single ‘Physical’, Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’, and was also heavily involved in the recording of virtually all of Jackson’s Thriller album.

The Eagles Add February 2026 Dates To Residency At Sphere In Las Vegas
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of their Greatest Hits 1971-1975, the best-selling album in U.S. history, The Eagles have added four February 2026 dates to the band’s residency At Sphere in Las Vegas.
The newly-announced dates are Friday, February 20; Saturday, February 21; Friday, February 27; and Saturday, February 28.
The residency, “Eagles – Live in Concert at Sphere,” now totals 52 shows from Friday, September 20, 2024, through Saturday, February 28, 2026, making it the longest-running Sphere residency since the revolutionary venue opened in September 2023.
The general on-sale for the new shows will begin on October 24 at 10 am PT at eagles.com. Tickets start at $175.
To assist in getting tickets directly into the hands of fans, advance artist presale registration is also available now at eagles.com, powered by Seated, and begins on October 22 at 10 AM PT.

On this day in 1972 – Creedence Clearwater Revival Splits
On this day in 1972 – Creedence Clearwater Revival split up following the failure of their most recent album, ‘Mardi Gras’. After limited success as a solo act and some legal hassles with Fantasy Records, John Fogarty would have two big hits in 1985, ‘Center Field’ and ‘Rock and Roll Girls’. John’s brother Tom Fogarty died in September, 1990 and the surviving members have been touring as Creedence Clearwater Revisited.
Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Reveals Star-Studded Lineup Of Special Guests For 2025 Induction Ceremony
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced a star-studded lineup of presenters and performers at this year’s induction ceremony.
An initial list of 18 celebrities and musicians are set to take part in the ceremony, due to take place on November 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
The list includes four artists who have already been inducted into the Rock Hall: Elton John, Missy Elliott, Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Iggy Pop of The Stooges.
The list also includes current hitmakers Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, Teddy Swims, and RAYE as well as TV legend David Letterman.
Beck, Brandi Carlisle, J.I.D, Killer Mike, Maxwell, Questlove, Sleepy Brown, Taylor Momsen, Teddy Swims and Twenty One Pilots are also among the initial list of presenters and performers.
The 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees include Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Soundgarden and The White Stripes in the Performer category, along with Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon for Musical Influence.
Tickets for the 40th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, a celebration of music’s highest honor, are available for purchase on AXS.com.
The induction ceremony will again stream live coast-to-coast on Disney+ Saturday, Nov. 8, at 8 p.m. ET, and will be available to stream following the ceremony.
ABC will also air a primetime special featuring performance highlights and standout moments on Thursday, January 1, at 8 p.m. ET, and it will be available the next day on Hulu.

On this day in 2007 – The Tom Petty doc ”Running Down A Dream” debuts
On this day in 2007 – The Tom Petty documentary film, Running Down A Dream, made it’s debut at the New York Film Festival. The 4-hour documentary chronicled the history of the band, from its inception as Mudcrutch, right up to the 30th-anniversary concert in Petty’s home town of Gainesville, Florida, on September 21, 2006.
