Sting Releases Expanded Edition Of ‘The Last Ship’

Sting has released an expanded edition of The Last Ship, featuring five new recordings.

The newly expanded version of Sting’s acclaimed album is available now in digital, CD, and 2-disc vinyl formats.

The release arrives ahead of a series of international stagings of The Last Ship, in which Sting will reprise his starring role of Jackie White. The new production will premiere next year in Amsterdam, Paris, Brisbane and at the famed Metropolitan Opera House in New York City.

Inspired by the shipbuilding community of Sting’s hometown of Wallsend in northeast England, The Last Ship explores a town’s struggle with the collapse of its historic industry.

The musical premiered on Broadway in 2014, earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Original Score and has since been staged to widespread critical acclaim around the world.

“I literally grew up in the shadow of the yard,” Sting says. “I dreamed of escaping—and I succeeded. But later I realized I had to give something back. THE LAST SHIP is my tribute to the people and the place that shaped me.”

Ozzy Osbourne Posthumously Receives Birmingham’s Lord Mayor’s Award

Ozzy Osbourne posthumously received Birmingham’s Lord Mayor’s Award that is presented to individuals for “outstanding achievement or exceptional service to the City and people of Birmingham.”

“It’s not simply for a job that’s been done well or because someone has reached a particular level. Instead, it recognises people who have ‘gone the extra mile’,” says a post by Birmingham City Council.

Ozzy’s wife Sharon and daughter Kelly accepted the prestigious honour on behalf of the late icon from Birmingham Councillor Ken Wood on Wednesday (December 3) on what would have been the legendary musician’s 77th birthday.

“I just want to take a second to thank the people of Birmingham for not only showing my family so much love, but for showing up for my father in a way that made him the happiest man on the planet,” Kelly said in a video message posted on the Birmingham Council’s Instagram page.

“The one thing that my father was most proud of is that he was a Brummie [Birmingham native], and Birmingham has done him proud,” she added.

Sharon and Kelly were also presented with a Book of Condolences containing tributes from Birmingham citizens following Ozzy’s passing in July.

Ozzy, who sold over 100 million records worldwide during his career, is one of only 27 artists in history inducted into the famous Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame twice. In his nearly six-decade career, Ozzy won five Grammys and became the face of Birmingham, a city he loved his whole life.

Ozzy passed away on July 22nd, a little over a fortnight after he performed his final concert both as a solo act and with Black Sabbath at Villa Park in Birmingham.
