On this day in 1979 – The first night of a series of concerts were held at The Hammersmith Odeon in London for the People of Kampuchea, featuring Queen, The Clash, The Pretenders, The Who, Elvis Costello, Wings, and many more artists. The events which were organised by Paul McCartney and Kurt Waldheim were aimed to raise money for the victims of war-torn Cambodia.

Billy Joel Carnegie Hall Tribute Concert To Feature Star-Studded Lineup
A star-studded line-up has been unveiled for a Billy Joel tribute concert at Carnegie Hall.
A wide range of artists from the pop-rock, folk and country genres will be performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City on March 12, 2026.
The line up includes Mary Chapin Carpenter, Gavin DeGraw, Bettye LaVette, Pat Monahan of Train, Matt Nathanson, Joy Oladokun, O.A.R.’s Marc Roberge, Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20, The War and Treaty, Tanya Tucker, Rufus Wainwright and Billy Joel’s daughter Alexa Ray Joel. More artists will be added to the list soon.
Although Billy Joel, 76, is not performing at the concert, next year’s House Band will be his own backing band, consisting of Musical Director/Bandleader David Rosenthal, Mark Rivera, Crystal Taliefero, Carl Fischer, Tommy Byrnes, Andy Cichon, Chuck Burgi and Mike DelGuidice.
The 2026 edition of the annual Carnegie Hall Tribute Series, titled “The Music of Billy Joel,” is promoted by Michael Dorf.
All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit music education for underserved youth programs in New York City and beyond.

On this day in 1976 – The Eagles ‘Hotel California’ album Begins its’ reign at Number One
On this day in 1976 – The Eagles sixth album, Hotel California spent the first of eight non-consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard chart. The band’s first LP with Joe Walsh and last with bassist Randy Meisner which has now sold over 34 million copies worldwide. Some of the album was recorded at Criteria Studios, Miami. While the band were recording Black Sabbath were recording Technical Ecstasy in an adjacent studio and The Eagles were forced to stop recording on numerous occasions because Black Sabbath were too loud and the sound was coming through the wall.

Jon Anderson To Re-Release ‘Earth Mother Earth,’ ‘Survival & Other Stories’
Former YES vocalist Jon Anderson has teamed up with his current label Frontiers Music to re-release two albums from his illustrious career: 1997’s Earth Mother Earth and 2011’s Survival & Other Stories.
Both titles will be available on CD and vinyl as well as streaming and digital download on March 27, 2026. Vinyl copies of both titles are available for pre-order now as part of the Record Store Day Essentials Program. Earth Mother Earth is available on green vinyl and Survival & Other Stories is available on gold marble vinyl.
In addition, Anderson also shared a new visualizer for “Time Has Come” taken from his album Earth Mother Earth.

On this day in 2002 – Sir Paul McCartney granted his own coat of arms
On this day in 2002 – Sir Paul McCartney was granted his own coat of arms by the College of Arms, the English heraldic body formed in 1484. The crest featured a bird that appeared to be holding a guitar in its claw. The motto is “Ecce Cor Meum”, Latin for ‘Behold My Heart’, which is the title of an oratorio he composed.
On this day in 2014 – Joe Cocker passes
On this day in 2014 – Joe Cocker died of lung cancer in Crawford, Colorado aged 70. The Sheffield-born singer was known for his gritty voice, spasmodic body movement in performance and definitive versions of popular songs of varying genre. Cocker had a career lasting more than 40 years, with hits including his cover of The Beatles’ With a Little Help from My Friends, ‘You Are So Beautiful’ and ‘Up Where We Belong’. He was made an OBE in 2011. In the early Sixties Cocker was performing as Vance Arnold. The name was a combination of Vince Everett, Elvis Presley’s character in Jailhouse Rock (which Cocker misheard as Vance) and country singer Eddy Arnold.
David Lee Roth To Headline 2026 Sturgis Buffalo Chip
Rock legend David Lee Roth will be bringing his high-octane energy and iconic Van Halen hits to the 2026 Sturgis Buffalo Chip festival in South Dakota on August 7, 2026.
Roth is slated to headline the first official day of the rally, which runs from August 7 till the 16th, and is expected to perform a slew of his most infamous hits.
“David Lee Roth said in an interview once that he sells smiles for a living, and we do the exact same thing at the Chip, so this feels like a match made in rock ‘n’ roll heaven,” shares Rod Woodruff, CEO of Sturgis Buffalo Chip. “Opening the rally with an unforgettable show from Diamond Dave playing his biggest Van Halen hits will keep smiles permanently plastered on faces all through the Rally, and probably longer!”
The festival will include concerts, charity rides, custom bike shows, stunts, racing, women’s events and more. Previously announced performers include Lainey Wilson and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

On this day in 1970 – Elton John Breaks in America with ‘Your Song’
On this day in 1970 – Elton John’s first US hit, ‘Your Song’ entered the Billboard Hot 100, where it went on to reach No.8. The song also reached No.7 on the UK Singles Chart in January 1971. The Hollies had been offered the song but turned it down and Three Dog Night had already recorded a version, which was included on their It Ain’t Easy album. John was an opening act for Three Dog Night at the time and allowed them to record it. They did not release it as a single, as they wanted to let John, then an upcoming artist, have a go with it.
Sebastian Bach Announces 2026 North American Tour
Sebastian Bach has announced a 2026 North American headlining tour, dubbed The Party Never Ends.
The trek will kick off on February 26th at Yaamava’ Casino in Highland, California. The tour will feature stops across Atlantic City, New Jersey; Portland, Oregon; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Nashville, Tennessee, among other towns, before wrapping up with an April 10th show in West Wendover, Nevada.
The tour will feature support from Stitched Up Heart on most dates. Tickets are on sale now.
Bach has been on the road off and on since the release of his latest album, Child Within the Man, in 2024. The performances feature songs from his solo career as well as popular tracks from his years with Skid Row.
