The Black Crowes Announce New Album ‘A Pound Of Feathers’

Rock icons and 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees The Black Crowes have announced that their highly anticipated new studio album, A Pound of Feathers, will be released on March 13 via Silver Arrow Records.

Produced by Jay Joyce, the new album pushes their iconic blend of blues, soul and rock into electrifying new terrain. With a career spanning four decades, the band’s upcoming release stands as a towering testament to their enduring artistic fire and significance in rock and roll.

“We made this record in eight to ten days,” says The Black Crowes founder Chris Robinson. “Bringing the high and inspiration from Happiness Bastards into this album, it was a natural progression. We experimented more, we wrote on instinct and how we were feeling in the moment. Rich brought a spontaneity to the record that I can’t describe, but it’s the best shit he’s ever done.”

Co-founder Rich Robinson adds, “This album feels transformative to us. Going back to our roots, we felt that spark in the studio and how we work together. Lighting a fire that hits harder, more jagged but is still true to our musical essence.”

A Pound of Feathers marks a bold creative evolution — marrying the rugged swagger of their early classics with fresh perspectives and dynamic, hard-hitting rhythmic textures. Recorded in Nashville with Grammy-winning producer Jay Joyce and curated with visionary energy and deep musical empathy, the record showcases a fearless band operating at the height of their powers.

On Thursday, The Black Crowes released two tracks from the album, “Propane Prophecy” and “Pharmacy Chronicles.”

All 11 tracks of the album were written by the Robinson brothers.

A Pound of Feathers Tracklist:

Cruel Streak
Pharmacy Chronicles
Do The Parasite!
High And Lonesome
Queen of the B-Sides
It’s Like That

Grateful Dead Co-Founder Bob Weir Dead At 78

Grateful Dead co-founder Bob Weir has died at the age of 78.

Weir, who was diagnosed with cancer in July, died of “underlying lung issues,” Weir’s team said in a tribute posted on his official Instagram page.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Bobby Weir,” the post said. “He transitioned peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after courageously beating cancer as only Bobby could. Unfortunately, he succumbed to underlying lung issues”.

The statement adds, “For over sixty years, Bobby took to the road. A guitarist, vocalist, storyteller, and founding member of the Grateful Dead. Bobby will forever be a guiding force whose unique artistry reshaped American music. His work did more than fill rooms with music; it was warm sunlight that filled the soul, building a community, a language, and a feeling of family that generations of fans carry with them. Every chord he played, every word he sang was an integral part of the stories he wove. There was an invitation: to feel, to question, to wander, and to belong.”

The team said that Weir began treatment only weeks before returning to his hometown stage for a three-night celebration of 60 years of music at Golden Gate Park. They described those performances, “emotional, soulful, and full of light,” as “not farewells, but gifts.”

After the group disbanded in 1995, Weir performed with The Other Ones, later known as The Dead, together with other former members of the Grateful Dead.

Weir also founded and played in several other bands during and after his career with the Grateful Dead.

During his career with the Grateful Dead, Weir played mostly rhythm guitar and sang many of the band’s rock & roll and country and western songs. In 1994, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Grateful Dead. In 2024, he was awarded Kennedy Center Honors.

Weir was also honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, the Les Paul Spirit Award and the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

The equipment comes from Jones’ private studio and has no direct Led Zeppelin connection. It includes a wide range of gear, from Akai samplers, Roland drum machines, and Novation synthesizers to vintage delays, tape machines, and rack units.

The collection is being sold through a series of timed auctions via Soundgas. The first auction began on December 19 and is scheduled to close on January 18.

“John is still very active musically—writing, recording, and performing—but no longer requires so much studio equipment, most of which he has owned from new,” Soundgas writes on its website. “He feels it should be in the hands of people who will put it to good use, so it is offered here without formal provenance, with the intention that it continues to be used as intended.”
