The Beatles’ ‘Now And Then’ Surges To No. 1 On U.K. Singles Chart

The Beatles have made UK Official Chart history, with their new song “Now And Then” surging to No. 1.

The Liverpool legends’ last track vaulted 41 places to the summit after having debuted at Number 42 last week based on just 10 hours’ worth of sales following the track’s Thursday release.

“Now And Then” uses WingNut Films’ groundbreaking MAL audio technology to reunite the inimitable group one last time, returning them to the top of the Official Singles Chart 60 years after their first No. 1 single “From Me to You,” marking the longest-ever gap between an act’s first and last chart-topping hit.

“Now And Then” marks the legendary music group’s 18th No. 1 hit. With this, The Beatles extend their record as the British act with the most U.K. No. 1 singles in Official Charts history. Only Elvis Presley, with 21 No. 1 hits to his name, has more.

The song is No. 1 with 78,200 combined U.K. chart units across sales and streaming.

“Now And Then” is the most-streamed Beatles track in one week ever – 5.03 million streams.

It is also The Beatles’ most-watched music video in one week ever – 2.15 million streams.

Celebrating the news, The Beatles’ Paul McCartney told Official Charts, “It’s mind boggling. It’s blown my socks off. It’s also a very emotional moment for me. I love it!”

“The beat goes on Peace & Love,” adds bandmate Ringo Starr.

The Beatles Share Peter Jackson-Directed Video For ‘Now And Then’

The Beatles recently a music video for “Now And Then,” which has been called the last song by the legendary band.

The video, featuring previously unseen archival footage and new visual effects, was directed by Peter Jackson.

“To be honest, while we hope we’ve given the Beatles a suitable final farewell, that’s something you’ll need to decide for yourselves when it’s finally released,” Jackson said. “Having got to the end, I’m very happy I’m not waiting for the release of somebody else’s ‘Now and Then’ music video. I have genuine pride in what we made, and I’ll cherish that for years to come.”

In addition to the new music video, CD, vinyl and cassette copies of “Now And Then” also debuted last Friday.

The song will be included on Beatles’ expanded Red And Blue compilations.

“Now And Then,” written and sung by John Lennon in 1978 and developed and worked on by Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, was finally finished by Paul and Ringo 45 years later.

For years, it looked like the song could never be completed. But in 2022, de-mixing technology developed by Jackson and his team, used throughout the production of the documentary series The Beatles: Get Back, finally opened the way for the uncoupling of Lennon’s vocals from his piano part.

A 12-minute documentary film tells the story behind the last Beatles song, with exclusive footage and commentary from Paul, Ringo, George, Sean Ono Lennon and Jackson.

Peter Gabriel Shares New Single ‘And Still’ From Upcoming Album

Peter Gabriel recently released “And Still,” the eleventh and penultimate track of his upcoming album i/o.

The first version of “And Still” to be released is the “Dark-Side Mix,” by Tchad Blake.

Speaking about the song, Gabriel said, “I wrote a song for my dad a number of years back, which I was actually able to play him, which was ‘Father, Son’. When my mum died, I wanted to do something for her, but it’s taken a while before I felt comfortable and distant enough to be able to write something.”

“I was trying also to write a little bit in the style of the music that my parents responded to, so I think there is some music from the 40s probably that had an influence on the song,” he added. “In the middle I wanted to write my mum a beautiful melody. She loved classical music, so we have a beautiful cello playing there. It took a while to get that right, it can’t be too emotional or too underplayed, but I think we got there in the end.”

“And Still” has been a stand-out moment in the recent i/o tour, with the cello part played by Ayanna Witter-Johnson. In the studio recording, the solo cello comes courtesy of the New Blood Orchestra’s Ian Burdge.

This October full moon release comes with artwork from artist Megan Rooney and one of her trademark large-scale paintings “And Still (Time).”

“And Still” comes with differing mix approaches. The “Dark-Side Mix” by Tchad Blake was released on the full moon on October 28. Mark ‘Spike’ Stent’s “Bright-Side Mix” and Hans-Martin Buff’s “Atmos mix (In-Side Mix)” will be released in mid-November on the next new moon.

Gabriel’s highly-anticipated album i/o, which is a collection of a dozen songs, will be released on December 1. It is available for pre-order at https://lnk.to/PG21
