Deep Purple have announced that their new album, =1, will be released on July 19 via earMUSIC.

The first single from the upcoming 13-track album will be unveiled at midnight on April 30.

=1 will be the rock band’s first album with sensational guitarist Simon McBride, who replaced longtime member Steve Morse after he left due to personal circumstances in 2022.

“The enigmatic title ‘=1’ symbolizes the idea that in a world growing ever more complex, everything eventually simplifies down to a single, unified essence,” said a statement announcing the album. “Everything equals one.”

The statement added, “Its full meaning will be revealed in the coming weeks, with the artwork also playing its part. Fans have already been speculating after mysterious equations and depictions of multiverses appeared in London, Paris, and Berlin in recent days.”

=1 will be released as limited CD+DVD (Digipak), CD (Jewelcase), 2LP Gatefold (black, 180g), Ltd. Purple 2LP Gatefold (180g), Ltd. Crystal Clear 2LP (180g) and Ltd. Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour has announced that his new album, Luck and Strange, will be released on September 6 on Sony Music.

Luck and Strange was recorded over five months in Brighton and London and is Gilmour’s first album of new material in nine years. The record was produced by Gilmour and Charlie Andrew.

Of this new working relationship, Gilmour says, “We invited Charlie to the house, so he came and listened to some demos, and said things like, ‘Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?’ and ‘Do they all fade out? Can’t some of them just end?'”

“He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine,” the Pink Floyd guitarist added. “He’s very direct and not in any way overawed, and I love that. That is just so good for me because the last thing you want is people just deferring to you”.

The majority of the album’s lyrics have been composed by Polly Samson, Gilmour’s co-writer and collaborator for the past thirty years.

Samson says of the lyrical themes covered on Luck and Strange, “It’s written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant.”

Gilmour elaborates, “We spent a load of time during and after lockdown talking about and thinking about those kind of things.”

Samson also found the experience of working with Charlie Andrew liberating, saying, “He wants to know what the songs are about, he wants everyone who’s playing on them to have the ideas that are in the lyric informing their playing. I have particularly loved it for that reason”.

The album features eight new tracks along with a beautiful reworking of The Montgolfier Brothers’ “Between Two Points” and has artwork and photography by the renowned artist Anton Corbijn.

Musicians contributing to the record include Guy Pratt and Tom Herbert on bass, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd and Steve DiStanislao on drums, Rob Gentry and Roger Eno on keyboards, with string and choral arrangements by Will Gardner. The title track also features the late Pink Floyd keyboard player Richard Wright.

Paul McCartney & Wings will officially release their live studio album One Hand Clapping on June 14.

The English-American rock band filmed a video documentary and possible live studio album – One Hand Clapping – at Abbey Road Studios in 1974. Despite overwhelming demand for newly recorded material, One Hand Clapping was never officially released.

Filmed and recorded over four days and directed by David Litchfield, the newly-mixed One Hand Clapping features the original artwork designed for the project, including a TV sales brochure for the unreleased film at the time. This is the first time the audio for the film and several additional songs recorded off-camera have been officially issued.

Opening with an instrumental jam that would become the One Hand Clapping theme song, the album features live-in-studio renditions of Wings mega-hits “Live and Let Die,” “Band on the Run,” “Jet,” “My Love,” “Hi, Hi, Hi,” “Junior’s Farm, “Paul’s much loved solo song “Maybe I’m Amazed,” reworked extracts of Beatles classics “Let It Be,” “The Long and Winding Road” and “Lady Madonna,” the Moody Blues hit “Go Now” with Denny Laine singing, and a Paul solo piano version of the Harry Akst/Benny Davis Tin Pan Alley classic “Baby Face.”

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has announced the list of 2024 inductees.

Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, and A Tribe Called Quest will be inducted in the Performer Category as artists who have created music whose originality, impact, and influence has changed the course of rock & roll.

Alexis Korner, John Mayall, and Big Mama Thornton will be honored with Musical Influence Award:.

Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick, and Norman Whitfield were selected for the Musical Excellence Award, while the Ahmet Ertegun Award goes to Suzanne de Passe.

The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction will be held on October 19 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. The ceremony will stream live on Disney+ with a special airing on ABC at a later date and available on Hulu the next day.

The Inductees were announced live on ABC by Ryan Seacrest and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Lionel Richie during the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night episode of “American Idol.” where the Top 14 American Idol finalists took on songs from legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees as America voted live for the Top 12.

Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band have announced Fall 2024 North American tour dates.

Ringo said the tour will see the band return to a few of his favorite venues. They include Fallsview Casino in Fallsview, Ontario, where he has launched several tours and to Radio City Music Hall where he has performed 8 times with the All Starrs between 1992 and 2018, and on July 7, 2010 where Ringo and the All Starrs were joined by two surprise guests, Paul McCartney and Joe Walsh, in celebration of Ringo’s 70th birthday.

Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band featuring Steve Lukather, Edgar Winter, Colin Hay, Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart and Gregg Bissonette will play 12 shows overall. On Thursday, nine dates were announced.

This is in addition to Ringo and his All Starr Band’s already announced 12 shows this Spring, which are set to kick off at The Venetian in Las Vegas on May 22.

In other Ringo news, the Beatles drummer released his 5th EP, Crooked Boy, as a special limited edition marble vinyl on Record Store Day, April 20.

The first single for Crooked Boy, “February Sky”, was released on April 12. It is available to stream and download now on all platforms.
