This day in 1976 – Florence Ballard of The Supremes dies of cardiac arrest

This day in 1976 – Florence Ballard of The Supremes died of cardiac arrest, age 32. She sang on 16 top 40 singles with the group, including ten number-one hits. Ballard had left the group in 1967, lost an $8 million (£4.7 million) lawsuit against Motown records, had struggled with alcoholism, depression, and poverty for three years and was living on welfare when she died.
