It was a happy bus trip home for the Sigourney basketball squads Friday night, as they each came away with wins over H-L-V, in a doubleheader heard live on KMZN.
Despite colder-than-normal shooting, the Savage ladies emerged victorious, 52 – 42 over the Lady Warriors. With the game tied at 20 at halftime, the Savages came out swinging in the third, outscoring H-L-V, 19–8 en route to the win. Coming into play, Sigourney’s girls were shooting better than 60% at the free throw line, but went just 3-for-14. Josephine Moore had another impressive offensive game, scoring 22 points, while Brynn Clarahan added 11 more. The Savage girls are now 9–4 on the year.
Sigourney’s boys started out strong, and finished stronger, completing the sweep with a 62–37 triumph. Sigourney had a 26–15 lead at intermission and piled it on in the second half, scoring 19 in the third and 17 more in the final eight minutes. Both Isaac Bruns and John Berg dumped in 18 points, and Solon Yates added 15. The Savage boys now sit with a 9–4 record, and both teams will start their second trip through league play with a home doubleheader next on Tuesday versus Keota. You can hear that doubleheader live on KMZN and RadioKMZN.com starting with pregame coverage at 5:45 pm and the tip-off of the girls’ game at 6:00.
