It was a night of high-scoring affairs for the Sigourney girls’ and boys’ basketball teams as they each came away with victories on Friday night at home versus BGM. Four Savage girls wound up in double figures in a 71-55 thumping of the Bears. Sigourney led by as many as 27 in the second half, and they stretched their lead after the first quarter with skillful outside shooting; the Savages drained seven shots from outside, including four from senior McKinley Chittick, who finished with 12 points on the night. Josephine Moore led the way with 23 points, Bailey Gretter added 16, and freshman Brynn Clarahan scored 13, as Sigourney’s girls improved to 6–4 on the year.
Sigourney’s boys got out to a 15–1 lead and never looked back in a 75–55 defeat of the Bears. Isaac Bruns had a game-high 23 points, and was backed up by superb efforts from John Berg, who scored 19 and added a basketful of rebounds, and 13 points from Solon Yates. The Savage boys improve to 5–4 on the year, and they’ll join the girls for another doubleheader on Saturday, when they host Pekin.
