The new Associated Press Boys’ Basketball Poll came out earlier this week, and features a few area teams.
Pella has climbed to the top of the Class 3A poll. The Dutch have 122 points, just three more than Wahlert of Dubuque. Wahlert actually has one more first place vote than Pella, but it wasn’t enough to hold the Dutch off the top spot. Harlan is #3, Cedar Rapids Xavier is #4, and Chariton rounds out the top five. Grinnell received one point this week in the poll.
In Class 2A, Pella Christian slipped two spots to #6 after suffering a big loss to Pella last week. The Eagles are just outside the top five behind Western Christian, Cascade of Western Dubuque, Dike-New Hartford, Treynor, and Northeast of Goose Lake. Western Christian received all 13 first place votes.
In Class 1A, Montezuma has entered the top ten at #9 after an unbeaten start to the season. Lynnville-Sully is among the teams receiving votes after a strong start to the season as well. The Hawks’ lone loss came in double overtime to Montezuma a couple of weeks ago. Gladbrook-Reinbeck is #1, followed by West Hancock, Danville, IKM-Manning, and West Fork.
There are no area teams in Class 4A. Iowa City West is at the top, followed by West Des Moines Valley, Pleasant Valley, Des Moines Hoover, and Ankeny.
The new AP Poll for boys’ basketball comes out every Monday during the season.
