The Class 3A and 4A districts and substates have been released for baseball by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
Osky will have an interesting challenge in Class 3A District 12, as they’ll be paired with archrival Pella, Knoxville, and Chariton. Knoxville and Osky have played three times with the Indians winning two of the meetings. Chariton and Pella will be underdogs in first round matchups.
In District 11, Grinnell is mixed in with Benton Community, South Tama County, and Vinton-Shellsburg. V-S is ranked #3 in Class 3A in the latest rankings.
In Class 4A, Newton is in Substate 2. They’ll have to go through #6 Ankeny Centennial, Fort Dodge, #7 Indianola, Marshalltown, and Mason City to make it to state. The Cardinals will be a big underdog in this group.
Finally, Substate 3 involves Ottumwa, who is receiving votes in the latest Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association Rankings. The Bulldogs will need to outlast Cedar Falls (also receiving votes), Cedar Rapids Kennedy, #8 Cedar Rapids Prairie, Southeast Polk, and Waterloo West. Ottumwa will have a shot, but will need to play well to make it to Principal Park.
The full brackets should be released within the next couple of weeks. For more info, check out kboeradio.com orradiokmzn.com.
