OLLIE – A two-vehicle crash in Keokuk County yesterday afternoon resulted in the death of a Sigourney man.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, yesterday afternoon, at approximately 2:45 PM, 65-year-old Steven Greiner of Packwood was traveling northbound in a GMC Sierra on 270th Avenue southeast of Ollie, while 83-year-old Phillip Blackhurst of Sigourney was traveling northbound behind him in a Ram ProMaster van.
Greiner’s vehicle was slowing to make a right turn onto 335th Street when Blackhurst’s vehicle rear-ended him. Both vehicles came to rest in the southbound ditch.
The crash report states that Blackhurst was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was transported to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s office.
Greiner was injured in the accident and transported via ambulance to Keokuk County Hospital & Clinics.
Both drivers were reportedly wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
