Phil Collins has revealed that he nearly died amid his battle with alcohol addiction.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, the 75 year-old singer recalled the times when he came face-to-face with death.
Collins said that when he was admitted to a hospital in Switzerland in a coma in April 2024 due to excessive alcohol intake, all five of his children – Lily Collins, Joely Collins, Simon Collins, Nicolas Collins and Matthew Collins – were called to his bedside by his long-time manager because “There were some decisions to be made about, ‘Do we keep Phil on life support?’ kind of thing.”
Collins said he was hospitalized about a year after his farewell tour with Genesis due to organ failure. “My kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up. People were coming to say goodbye,” he said. “But I don’t remember them coming. I didn’t have no idea this was going on. They were all worried that they wouldn’t see me again. It could all have gone so terribly wrong.”
The Oscar-winning musician said he was very lucky to have come out of the ordeal and disclosed that he stopped drinking after recovery.
Collins recalled celebrating the new year when he reunited with his family at London’s Mandarin Oriental.
Collins will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in November.
