North Mahaska Girls Basketball Coach L.E. Moore Inducted into IGCA Hall of Fame

NEW SHARON — The Iowa Girls Coaches Association (IGCA) has announced the induction of longtime basketball coach L.E. Moore into the prestigious IGCA Hall of Fame, recognizing a remarkable career defined by excellence, leadership, and unwavering dedication to student athletes.

Over a distinguished 24-year coaching career, Coach Moore built a legacy that spans two communities and multiple generations of athletes. He spent seven years at Montezuma before taking the helm at North Mahaska, where he devoted 17 years to building one of the most respected girls’ basketball programs in the state.

At North Mahaska, Coach Moore compiled an astounding 297-101 record, contributing to an impressive career total of 376-178. His teams captured 11 Conference Championships, demonstrating consistent excellence and a culture of hard work.

Moore’s leadership received statewide recognition throughout his career. He is a four-time District Coach of the Year, the 2012 1A State Coach of the Year, and a two-time All Star Game Coach. Under his guidance, his teams became five-time State Qualifiers across both Class 1A and 2A—highlighted by an unforgettable run to the 2012 State Championship.

Beyond wins and titles, Coach Moore’s true impact is reflected in the lives of his players. Twelve of his student-athletes went on to compete at the collegiate level, carrying with them the work ethic, discipline, and values he instilled.

As he reflects on this milestone honor, Coach Moore expressed deep gratitude for everyone who shaped his journey. He is thankful for the student-athletes he had the privilege to coach, the assistant coaches and mentors who guided and supported him, and his family who stood by him—especially his wife of 50 years, Sherrie.

The IGCA Hall of Fame induction stands as a well-deserved recognition of Coach Moore’s extraordinary career and lasting influence on Iowa girls’ basketball.
