Early Goal Sinks Statesmen in Road Loss to Clarke

DUBUQUE — The William Penn women’s soccer team came up short in a 1-0 loss to Clarke in Heart of America Athletic Conference play Wednesday.

The Statesmen (1-4-1, 0-2 Heart) were limited offensively, recording just one shot compared to Clarke’s nine. The Pride (2-2-2, 1-0-1 Heart) also held a 3-0 advantage in shots on goal.

Clarke struck in the 17th minute to grab the early edge and held on the rest of the way.

William Penn’s lone attempt came in the opening half, when Lilly Cote (Sr., Sioux City, Iowa, Psychology) pushed forward in search of the equalizer.
