DES MOINES – North Mahaska’s track season cane to an end Friday night on the Blue Oval at Drake Stadium. No better place to end it than as one of the top 24 competitors in Class 1A in the state of Iowa.
Kieren Perez had hopes of making the finals in the 100 hurdles but came up short in a highly competitive race.
Perez ran fourth in the first heat in 16.91 seconds. Her time was 14th best overall with eight going to the finals. Hannah Olson of Stanton had the best time in 15.19 and Northwood-Kensett’s Macy Thorson was second in 15.49.
In Perez’s heat Addison Winters of Kee Lansing was first in 15.56 to place fourth overall and Baxter’s Camryn Russell finished in 16:06 and was the seventh qualifier.
Next up Nataliya Linder seeking to add another medal to her third place in Thursday’s long jump in the 400-meter hurdles. Linder ran 10th overall in 1:07.05. Ada Hansen of CAM won the event in 1:02.97.
Perez and Linder each had one more chance to earn medals when they joined Addison Terpstra and Olivia Ridgeway in one of the most anticipated team races, the 400-meter relay. The team ran 18th overall and did not qualify for the finals. North Mahaska was one of three South Iowa Cedar League teams in the field.
North Mahaska posted a 52.04 second run. Edgewood-Colesburg’s quartet ran a season best 49.68. Montezuma’s team was 13th overall while Belle Plaine placed 24th.
While the high school season came to an end, some of this year’s track team will continue with a summer schedule in preparation for another run at state in 2026.
