The word of the night was “rout” as both Sigourney basketball squads captured conference conquests over Colfax-Mingo last night, in a doubleheader heard live on KMZN.
Quick hands and early sharp shooting helped the lady Savages prevail 55 – 22 over the Tigerhawks. Sigourney got out to an 18 – 9 lead, thanks to outside shooting, steals, and Tigerhawk turnovers. Brynn Clarahan led the way with a game-high 20 points, and senior Josephine Moore dumped in 19 more, as Sigourney’s girls improve to 8 – 4 on the season.
Eleven different players found their way into the scoring column, including four in double figures, as Sigourney’s boys walloped Colfax-Mingo, 86 – 47. The Savages outscored their opponents 52 – 25 after two quarters with the help of six three-pointers and stingy defense that led to a handful of takeaways and turnovers from the Tigerhawks. Solon Yates scored a team-high 21 points, John Berg dumped in 11, and both Ike Molyneux (Mole-uh-nicks) and Isaac Bruns added ten apiece for the now 8 – 4 Savage boys. Both Sigourney squads turn their attention to a road doubleheader this Friday at H-L-V. You can hear that game starting at 5:45 pm on KMZN and RadioKMZN.com.
