Statesmen Roll to 4-1 Victory Against Waldorf

FOREST CITY — The William Penn men’s soccer had little trouble Tuesday as it dismantled Waldorf 4-1 in non-conference action.

WPU (3-0), which is 3-0 for the second year in a row (first time in program history to do that), dominated from the opening whistle, including posting a 20-3 advantage in shots.

It was actually a slow start for the navy and gold offense, but Miguel Menendez (So., Oveido, Spain, Wellness and Recreation) finally broke through in the 27th minute as a punted ball by Kevin Onelius (So., Soderhamn, Sweden, Psychology) was headed forward by Albert Feixas (Fr., Santa Coloma de Farners, Spain, Exercise Science).  Menendez eventually tracked down the ball and put it away for the 1-0 lead.

Less than four minutes later, Luigi Mongan (Sr., Manchester, England, Business Management) claimed a corner kick off the foot of Ricardo da Silva (Jr., Vitoria, Brazil, Business Management) for a 2-0 edge entering the break.

Then in the 66th minute, Mongan sent a ball into the box.  Sears found it on the far post and centered it right in front of the goal where Feixas was there to deposit it.

WU (0-3-1) got on the board in the 69th minute, but never really threatened the visiting crew.  Feixas eventually closed out the evening’s goals at the 73:32 mark with help from da Silva and Moses Magens (Grad., Elmshorn, Germany, Master’s of Sports Management).

Menendez, with six shots, and Hugo Cornish (So., Sydney, Australia, Business Management), with five tries, headlined the offense, while Onelius stopped a pair of Warrior attempts for the win.

“We dominated the game and continue to create a lot of chances, but we are just not scoring as much as need,” Head Coach Simon Brown said.  “We honestly have a sour taste in our mouth because we should have done better.  We know we are going to get fewer chances against better teams down the road, so we have to take advantage.  We will go back to the drawing board and get ready for a massive test against #4 Oklahoma Wesleyan.”
