OFFBEAT NEWS:
Germans Compete To Be ‘Ice King’
For some, even going outside when it’s cold is a nightmare. For about 30 swimmers in Germany, it was just the beginning of their quest to be Ice King of Chiemsee Lake outside of Munich.
Men and women jumped in to 40-degree water and competed in several disciplines, including breast stroke and freestyle. The air out of water was around the freezing mark but the organizers had hot tubs on hand for the swimmers.
While it’s unclear who took home the title, competitor Mirko Roever says that’s not necessarily the point of getting in the water. “Ice swimming is one of those things where you ask yourself: Why are you doing this? Well, for the health, the stamina,” he explains. “And it requires a bit of willpower. That is very important. To overcome your ‘weaker self’ and be able to say that you did it. That is the great thing about it.” Now you know.

At Least One Person Thinks There Will Be Flying Cars By The End Of 2017
Airbus has big planes. The commercial aircraft company is working on a self-piloting flying car. What’s more, according to CEO Tom Enders, they’re planning on testing a prototype by the end of the year.
“One hundred years ago, urban transport went underground, now we have the technological wherewithal to go above ground,” Enders explains. “We are in an experimentation phase, we take this development very seriously.”
Airbus is considering individual and group helicopter like transport, all through a ride-sharing app. For now, they’re focusing on getting single-person transport in the air by the end of 2017.

There’s A ‘Frozen’ Themed Anti-Drug Campaign
Apparently the Montana Meth Project is going after a much younger demographic. The anti-drug organization has created a new campaign featuring Elsa from “Frozen.”
Billboards and signs featuring the princess read “just let it go” – “it” being meth. The campaign doesn’t name Elsa of “Frozen” specifically, but the blonde cartoon princess looks very similar, even with scars and scabs that came along with the drug use.

Driver falls asleep at the wheel, ends you driving right into a Wendy’s:
If you’re tired, it’s best to stay off the road. We all know that, but one driver in Teays Valley, West Virginia must have thought they could wake themselves up enough to drive. Unfortunately for them and the Wendy’s off of State Route 34, that was not the case. Instead, the driver crossed the northbound lanes of traffic before going over a curb and running directly into the fast food restaurant. Police are investigating the crash.
Drunk man gets rescued from inside a utility pole:
Authorities in China had to rescue an unidentified, but allegedly drunk, man from inside a hollow utility pole laying on the side of the road. The man climbed in to the end of the pole that was two-and-a-half-foot wide but got wedged in as it got more narrow. In order to get the man out, rescuers had to cut off part of the steel post and tie a rope on his body. The man was taken to the hospital for observation but it’s unclear if he’s facing any charges.
