OSKALOOSA — William Penn Athletics Director Nik Rule has announced the hiring of Katrina Estes as Director of Athletic Performance.
Estes returns to WPU after working at the University of West Alabama since 2021. Starting as a graduate assistant, she was promoted to assistant director in March 2023. Estes worked primarily with UWA’s Olympic sports and also assisted with the football program.
“We are extremely excited to have Coach Estes return to lead our athletic performance department,” Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine Abu Ibrahim said. “Her personal approach, based on relationships and investing in people, has helped to make her a rising star in the industry. I look forward to working with her and seeing how she will advance our department.”
A 2021 graduate of WPU with a degree in Biology, Estes interned with her alma mater’s athletic performance department during the 2020-2021 school year. She was also an intern at Oskaloosa High School in 2020-2021. While at William Penn, Estes was a three-sport athlete, competing in women’s basketball, women’s golf, and women’s lacrosse.
“I am extremely excited to be the Director of Athletic Performance at William Penn,” Estes said. “I have known and been coached by many of the amazing people before me; having the opportunity to make my mark at William Penn is an honor. We will strive to create a program where student-athletes are pushed emotionally, mentally, and physically to be the very best they can be.”
“Coming back to William Penn is a dream come true,” Estes added. “I owe it all to the people and places that have shaped me to the person I am. I want to give a huge thank you to the athletes, coaches, and staff at the University of West Alabama. Everything I learned there over the years has prepared me for this opportunity today. William Penn was my home away from home as a student-athlete during my undergrad; this university is a place of growth and development and I want to be a part of that.”
Estes, who is CSCS certified, she earned her Master’s of Physical Education/Exercise Science from West Alabama in 2023.
