VICTOR – North Mahaska’s boys swept a wrestling triangular and the girls downed Cardinal Tuesday night. The boys defeated Montezuma 63-12, Cardinal 58-18 and HLV 65-12. Jalayna Shipley and Libby Groom pinned all five of their wrestlers for the win.
For the boys, five wrestlers went 3-0 on the night. Ryan Groom at 113 and Joel DeJong at 120 won all of theirs by forfeit. Hunter Wernli won three matches at 138 with a pin of Colton Buter of HLV in 14 seconds. He won the other matches by forfeit. Paul DeJong added three more wins at 145 winning a technical fall 17-1 in 2:24 over HLV’s Hayden Shafer. He pinned Cardinal’s Koby Britt in 2:17 and won by forfeit against Monte.
Wyatt Van Weelden pinned Montezuma’s Brent Plants in 2:41 and won a major decision 13-2 over Brock Lewman of Cardinal and picked up a forfeit from HLV. At 195 Alex Meland put down Landon Morrison of Montezuma in 49 seconds and picked up a pair of forfeits.
The other seven wrestlers went 2-1 on the night. No North Mahaska wrestler lost more than one match.
Shipley pinned Chloe Goodman of Cardinal in 1:04 and followed it up with a pin of Macy Grove in 2:21.
Groom had three matches against Cardinal. She pinned Ajaah Cox in 43 seconds, Skyllar Welch in 2:48 and took 57 seconds to pin Reagan Vaughn.
